The Latest Steam Hardware Survey Shows Very Little Difference

Steam Machines should launch with a little over 1600 titles available. If they eventually end up selling well at the conventional retail avenues as traditional consoles, such as Walmart and PeasantStop™, they can be considered at least moderately successful.

Dinosaur Hunt: Africa Contract Is Hilariously Terrible

The developer should just rename it to "Mobile Game Simulator 2015" and everything would be fine.

On Pre-Orders And Other Nasty Buying Habits
28 Sep 2015 at 5:04 pm UTC

Quoting: oldrocker99I must admit :( that I have bought Windows keys a time or two, but my major transgression was to have bought games for Windows in my dual-boot days  which then appeared in my Linux library: Borderlands 2, X-COM, Empire:Total War, Terraria, Bioshock Infinite, the Orange Box games, Torchlight II, and a few others which have slipped my slippery mind :D .

I have reformed and will nevah, evah buy Windows keys again ;) . Our platform is far too important to us to not support the devs who support our OS.
Same here although it is because I had a ton of games left over from when I used Windows primarily. I suppose I could re-buy the games elsewhere to get them counted toward Linux.

Another SIGGRAPH 2015 Video Talks About Vulkan & OpenGL, Valve Talk Source 2

Quoting: Mountain Man... won't let it go without a fight, and many programmers are already familiar with DirectX while they would have to learn Vulkan from scratch.
Right, since Direct3D 12 shares so much with previous Direct3D versions...
It shares enough in common that they're just building on existing knowledge instead of having to learn a whole new set of tricks. When you have a publisher breathing down your neck to produce results, are you, as a developer, going to take the steeper or shallower learning curve? That's a very real consideration.
I can't help but imagine that unless a publisher is using their own in-house game engine, Vulcan should eventually be available through all of the major engines.

Steam Reaches Over 1,500 Linux Games, It's Not Enough

Quoting: YoshiTheFox347Now we need some Lego games ????.
We already have one: http://store.steampowered.com/app/324790/ [External Link]

Quoting: GuestSteam also isn't the only way to get games. GOG is there, humble bundles, and also a whole group of other places (even if they're mostly indie). Valve hold far too much sway in the minds of the gaming masses, and while they do a good job, I don't think it's healthy for gaming.
I think it's a matter of Valve being the first to get their foot in the door. Everyone flocks to what is already established. It is telling to see GOG improving their Linux launchers and (hopefully eventually) Galaxy for Linux. Maybe the competition could pressure Valve into serving DRM-free.. or at least flag the games that already are as such.

Age Of Wonders III Now Has Mods, Linux Support Included, But No Mod Tools For Us
17 Sep 2015 at 8:32 pm UTC

Quoting: omer666In fact on the official link they state it will be out on GOG in the next 24h, so I don't think modding is an obstacle in itself. The problem lies somewhere else, and as I do think this situation is far from perfect, it is also the case for many other great games, and I don't even talk about games that have a Linux version that isn't available anywhere like the UT games...
I find this a handy link [External Link] to track GOG games which have Linux versions elsewhere.

GOL Asks: What Game Are You Looking Forward To Playing?

Dungeon Defenders 2 and Killing Floor 2 for me. Hopefully the sequels aren't plagued by the same issues some had experienced.

The Arctic Cooling Alpine 64 PRO Rev.2 Is Cheap & Fantastic AMD CPU Cooler
16 Sep 2015 at 2:21 pm UTC

Quoting: damarrinThe only problem with this I see is that the CPU you got is rated by AMD at 125W, whereas the cooler is rated aby Arctic Cooling at 85W. I'd be careful there.
A 100W rated model at the very least.

Now they just need an intuitive way to install the proprietary driver.

GOL Survey Results: August

Here’s the first results with the “Integrated AMD” option added, so it seems we will get more accurate results from now on.
I am one of the probably 12 or so people in that new category. Hopefully respondents understand the distinction of integrated vs dedicated.
