Game dev: Flax Engine is adding Linux support in an upcoming update
15 Nov 2019 at 7:43 pm UTC

It's important to mention Godot has yet to finish support for Vulkan, so it essentially doesn't do Vulkan atm. (does it even do DX?)

AND yes a lot of these engine developers need a wake up call. Their upper CEO management can't figure out why they aren't making as much as Unreal engine or Unity3d, well it's because of a more open & free to use business model that drives exposure and free training. Open source is also pretty damn beneficial for getting improvements from the community happening.

A good example of old archaic business models are Unigine and Cryengine, they either have extremely limited trial usage options or demand monthly/subscription payments to use.

This doesn't help exposure & use of their engines and thus why they are behind on many things regardless of what fancy features they attempt to convince people with.

Open Source + Public free use for mods or free games = ultimate win...

Meanwhile NVIDIA is doing their driver code all by themselves in-house.
Surprised they haven't gone open-source yet and ditch the binary method, my guess as to why they haven't is because their drivers have a lot of cheats and hacks that would make them look real bad if opened up to public eyes.

I don't think that's a issue dude, the chinese government is already making it mandatory to have citizens install spyware to use the internet, they can bring that to linux, without the app (isp authentication with app), no internet.

And it does not need to be open-source,. Dystopian society preserved!

The Chinese market should really push to get their citizens all moving to Linux and off windows machines for PC gaming, this would motivate EPIC Games to at least support Linux on their store platform and maybe encourage more Linux gamers over to the open-source side of life. (well mostly).

How is this compatible with Manjaro which has a special driver configuration?

Waiting on POP_OS to update them, it seems they operate very slowly and is starting to make me angry for trying pop_os because I can't test beta nvidia drivers and their stable release updates are slow. Same reason why I hated Manjaro really. My next DISTRO will be pure arch, maybe with a easy to use installer.

Our Wine release day puns are always in pour taste so none today for Wine 4.19

Supposedly this wine version should see applications like Mod Manager 2 vfs mostly working (some apps launched within need folders created manually).

I'm not sure if manually installing the driver is safe on Pop_OS either

BATTLETECH: Heavy Metal brings more classic 'Mechs and new weapon systems, releasing in November

It works reasonably well but keep in mind it is opengl so may not look quite as pretty as windows version, also the game has some memory leaks occurring which can creep up on you after a few hours gameplay.

Save-games are compatible with windows btw. It is set in 3025 so there is a limit to what battletech technology is available (unless you use a mod).

Unless heavy metal is like $5, then I won't be too interested in it because it sounds like their taking %25 of the stuff mods added and releasing it as DLC.
