AMD Radeon RX 6600 XT announced and launching August 11

The price of these GPUs are still very steep, was perusing an online store and noticed they had 6900XT(£1800) and 6800XT(£1000), someone in the retail chain is asking for silly money and seeing if anyone bites.

I do wonder if GPU manufacturers are struggling with 4k, high refresh-rates, and low power consumption. They all seem to be struggling with creating GPUs that can cover the criteria.

As I sit down to paint some Battletech miniatures this news pops up. I might give it a gander if a few friends are interested in it too.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, I have a few placeholder animations that I would love to get tweened and this looks like a great stop gap.

KDE teams up with Slimbook to bring a stylish new AMD Ryzen 4800H laptop

It looks like a nice laptop, but I can't find what the weight of the machine is. Being advertised as a SlimBook I can only imagine it's not heavy, their website is somewhat light on information.

Quoting: liamdaweOuch, another botched release? Was hoping that wouldn't happen after The Witcher 2.
I wonder how they tested it on their systems or did they validate it at all.
I't might be just simple silly thing like missing some files from the build they sent up to steam though..
I wouldnt call this a botched release yet. Lets give them some time. But it worries me that theres even not a single reply from devs/VP to the issue.
Give it another 12 hours. Time zones and all that - VP employees are probably not at work right now. They'll be having a fun day tomorrow though I guess.
Either way it's not a very good look. I am constantly surprised when devs release something and then go home without waiting on reports first.
I would hope they have a life outside of the office, and their company ensures they work the contracted hours, no more no less.
The total amount of hours is one thing. But this issue could be avoided with releases earlier in the work day so that you actually have time to receive(and act on) feedback.
Yes, that was my point that seems to have been missed. You shouldn't release if you have no time to deal with urgent issues. Firing and forgetting as seems to have been the case yesterday is not a good idea for anyone. Why should we have to wait 12/24 etc hours until it works? If it releases, it shouldn't just fail to work for seemingly everyone.

I don't want to be overly negative, but it's very annoying.
I agree it should have been properly tested before release, they need to improve their deployment methodology.

I picked up a copy and it crashes, has anybody got it running?

What are you playing this weekend?

Yes, it runs on Steam Play/Proton :D

Needs a workaround to make it start, and it occasionally starts stuttering after a while, but overall it's a pretty smooth experience.
How? I've seen footage of it running on Linux, but couldn't find anything to tell me how to get past that Social Club loading.
You need to create a custom dxvk config.

The CTO of Croteam has written up a post about 'The Elusive Frame Timing'
26 Jul 2018 at 7:05 pm UTC

Looks like they are using a variable-delta time for their rendering-subsystem. I had a similar problem with my own rendering system - I mitigated the problem by implementing a fixed-timestep that didn't accumulate elapsed-time. There is no need to 'catch-up' on missed frames. I found it more important to have consistent frames.
