Quoting: Philadelphus(Though I feel like I've come across a disproportionate number of Stone Age civs on Tomb Worlds with the Survivor trait…maybe it's just random, but I'd be interested to hear if anyone else is seeing something like that.)
Currently there's an issue [External Link] in the game when any pre-FTL civilization in atomic age has a 5% chance to start nuclear war event every month. And that can either wipe them completely, either throw back to stone age.

Should be fixed in a hotfix this week.
Little too realistic, lol

Still haven't tried Skyrim yet, lol. I'm excited for something like this although I hope they don't fall into the pit fall a lot of scify open world game can fall into... Making it too big (geographically)... Wandering through forests is one thing... Wanting through empty space is another....

Edit: also does the thumbnail picture for the article scream Galaxy freighter from Privateer to anyone else??

Get a whole lot of games in Humble's Türkiye and Syria Charity Bundle

Saga 1-10 alone is worth the price. I just finished 10 from my local library and I'm sad I'll have to wait for 11.

I think the only game one played in the list is System Shock 2. I'd recommended it, but it's going to show it's age, specially if you are familiar with the more modern Bioshock games.

Definitely the scariest game I ever played, lol

Quoting: denyasisI'm kinda curious if the use case for systems like this? Without a dedicated GPU, gaming seems like a stretch? But its way overkill for streaming? Non/lite-gaming desktop use maybe?

Quoting: gaboverstaOnce again it's time for my favourite game: Configuring systems I won't buy.
Also great to see continued preinstall efforts.
So what would you use it for? I'm genuinely curious ( I appear to be lacking in the creativity department today)
I wouldn't use it, that's why I wouldn't buy it. I just enjoy clicking on the high end options and seeing the price go up.
That said, when I was an office clerk this would have been awesome to have.
My last (and final) office job I had a Dell NUC. It was pretty capable, ran 3 monitors, SQL was pretty easy. It struggled with GIS on some things, but I think that was due to the lack of a GPU.

I've thought about getting my child an Rpi4, but the more I think about it, I think I'd rather get a NUC (or something similar). X86 and upgrade options keeps a lot of doors open. The price on this one seems a little high, but over 8 years of schooling, it's only $100 a year, which is pretty reasonable.

Very fair points for the both of you. It occurred to me just a while ago, at a lower price point, it could also make a decent "first computer" for a kid. It's kinda in the sweet spot of being pretty capable and pretty cheap, it would probably be a one time purchase for the majority of their education.

Flathub seeks funding to add payments, donations and subscriptions

I'm all for donations and being able to support various developers, but when I hear "subscription" I think something more commercial (especially since it's mentioned above in addition to recurring donations). And when I think commerical payments, I'm expecting commercial level support... That seems like a pretty high expectation for a dev from a consumer.

Valve tricks Dota 2 cheaters and then bans 40,000 of them

Quoting: GuestDota is free so all 40 thousands cheaters came back the same day on new account. In the old days punkbuster was giving hardware bans instead. Wikipedia says hardware GUID can be spoofed so it might be the reason why it's not in use anymore. I don't think this ban wave will change anything.
You could use payment info as a "hardware" ID instead. People spoofing credit cards have much bigger problems than being beaten in video games.
Prepaid cards, gift cards, etc... Changing payment info is trivial. Limiting payment options removes a large chunk of the player base (not everyone everywhere has access to credit cards).

Not to mention this game is free, so no payment is needed in the first place.

The new System Shock remake demo runs surprisingly well on Steam Deck

The combat, especially melee, felt quite poor and hard to judge when you're going to actually hit something.
The original System Shock have the same problem. Not a feature I personally would preserve but I don't work at Nightdive...
Agreed, and with the 30 year old game it was, the awkward and forced combat weren't exactly great (so much wild swinging of the pipe). Hopefully, on a modern remake, they can fix one of those.
