I remember playing this when it came out. I think I own the whole series from GOG. It was hard af for me (granted I was like 12 when I played it). But it was fun, I have to play the others still.

Quoting: CatKillerIt's a lot better than gaming on a laptop. Like, a hell of a lot better
That's good to know. My laptop is getting near the 10yr mark, this might be a nice replacement!

Quoting: nullzeroBottom line, I was many times almost jumping to get a switch to play (and buy again) some indies. Then I actually switched ideas (pun intended) and got a ryzen mini pc with steamOS (Chimera) on the TV to leverage the humble bundle gaming backlog. When Steam Deck appeared I instantly got it once I heard about it since it was best of both worlds, and to my surprise I can play AAA games on it, and they look good!! It blew away all expectations.
That's a good point. I've tried the remote streaming from my desktop to the TV, and I've lamented before, but it's just inferior to the Switch. There's just too many hurdles and inconveniences. Glad to see the Deck solves some of them!

This looks cool. I'm kinda wondering how this compares to say Space Haven and the like? Any thoughts?

Quoting: ArehandoroSteam Deck is the best gaming device since the Nintendo Switch. It is not shy of things to fix and improve, but as a first iteration, is more than I was expecting.
Agreed!! I was pretty skeptical of how well it would do, but it seems to be getting better every day. I'm not 100% convinced I want one though. I get the fun and confidence of it replacing a laptop for less demanding games, but what is your all's thoughts on the more "cinematic" route of games? I'm thinking some FPS's or stuff like The Witcher or Cp2077. Does it have the same feel as playing it on a nice monitor and nice sound?

I think the thing keeing it from being a Switch killer is, ironically, Steam. At it's core, steam was never designed for mobile or couch gaming for more than one user. Switch's profile system is dead simple to use (my illiterate children figured it out), with separate save games, drop in local multiplayer, etc.

Hopefully, that's something coming soon.

I played it long ago, kinda like a Diablo clone, iirc. Not exactly my cup of tea, but not bad

State of the industry: MSI offered a chance to win the ability to buy a GPU

Lotto makes sense, especially when the product is scarce. My region does that for high end alcohol.

And just like high end alcohol, there really isn't a need to have a high end GPU aside from a passion or hobby. Pretty much everything on the market now will run just fine old old and midrange cards.

The people yelling doom and gloom b/c most people are using cards with similar abilities to 1xxx cards seem to have forgotten, that was always the case. Gamers use regular hardware, not high-end.

It took about 8-10 years for minimum specs to start outmatching my last PC (it lasted from 2006 to 2019). That's just normal for most of us. My 2019 build will probably run everything under the sun till 2025, no worries... Maybe a memory upgrade.

Quoting: rcritI've always wondered where these blinged out rigs sit. My case is on the floor to my left so the only LED I can see is the front fan, and barely that. Do you have it sitting on your desk to your right to enjoy all the blinkin` lights to their fullest? I can never hear my case fans, I wonder how it is next to your head.
I never put my PC on the floor. I don't need it getting kicked by children, bumped by people, hit by mops and vacuums, or sucking up floor dust and dirt (even if it has fan filters) It sits on my desk next to my monitor.

No, It's not loud, barely even noticable. It's easier to route cables and peripherals. And easier to access for cleaning. Which means it does get cleaned.

And no, I don't have Lighting or anything. My case is stock.

...because it really does give you a little extra spark of happiness and that should never be underestimated
Don't just limit that to RGB lighting! Little personal touches really make a difference. Every desktop case I've had for the past 20+ years (minus my current one) has been custom painted.

I've never been interested in windows or lighting, but if it makes you happy, that's the most important part.

My current desktop is a modern, sleek, Fractal Design Nano. I've intentionally not painted it because I wanted to maintain that modern look. I'll also freely admit it is probably my most bland case (even if it does look good)
