Quoting: TheSHEEEPWhat I don't get is why they don't just add an occasional sync to it all to offset the rare case where there would be differences between the platforms.Because the Windows devs have no stake in the matter. It works for them, so no reason to change anything. These things almost never happen with in-house ports or games that have console versions. It's probably also something that can be held on to because digital distribution makes it easy to force players onto the exact same version of the game.

Quoting: ShmerlLately, I wanted to make some tool like that myself, after realizing that POL is basically a dead project. But I'll probably stick to some basic scripts :)Their Wine builds are still updated though. Which is my main usage of it, the ability to switch out various wine versions.

Aspyr on Steam about a release date for Linux:
"As soon as possible frankly. Our hope is this year for sure!"
I was hoping for something more certain.

The ARK: Survival Evolved launch trailer is here, more tests done, no Vulkan support soon

In fact, DOOM 2016 is the only game I can think of where a next gen API had a substantial improvement over it's main API. Maybe ID prepared IdTech for it in advance.

Quoting: TheRiddickI think both AMDGPU-PRO and the NVIDIA proprietary driver stacks offer superior performance with Vulkan, with on par Windows level performance if DOOM results under Wine are anything to go by.Of course. But when the engine is a DX11 engine, things don't go quite so smoothly. Feral stated quite clearly that bolting Vulkan onto DX11 engine is not efficient. Engines not to be heavily rebuilt to make that happen.

A quick scan reveals that SM5 level support is there, but slightly glitchy and very slow. Full support including parallel rendering is still listed as "future".

Quoting: ZaxthThe Elex developers are open to a Linux version of Elex, but they're reluctant due to having no experience with the platform.Never heard of that one. THQ Nordic as publisher should not be a problem either. In-house DirectX engine, so will probably be a challenge to port. Could be interesting for someone with his experience.

Most of the issues appear to be with the multiplayer aspect, which I ignored.
I did encounter a fair few glitches, but they were all due to a single problem. The game makes quite a mess when you play on ultrawide. Had to switch back to windowed. I also had some key detection problems (not responding to the E key during the tutorial). Otherwise my short play session was fine.
I did notice that you can't store items in the toilet any more. :P

Tonight Feral will be streaming F1 2017 on mac. If you want to know what the game is like, this will be the best place to find out. Especially if there are a bunch of Linux users subtly discussion that the game looks great and would be very nice to have on Linux. Note the emphasis on "subtly".

It is of course entirely possible that the official twitter person wasn't entirely up to date on the matter. But to be honest, I sort of expect that the decision was made before Feral asked whether Linux users wanted it on twitter. These things work much better as hype generator than as source for a business decision.
