Well, al experimenting done I think. Ray Tracing is a no-go. Despite the terrible FPS hit, it crashes between 3-30 seconds the game becomes unresponsive (although various sounds keep on going). Without RT, performance in D3D12 mode seems good. Still locked to 60 with everything on Ultra+. The only thing I can't get working is NV Hairworks. Supposedly that can be made to work fine in DX11 by adding d3dcompiler_47.dll, but that same trick produces another lock up in DX12. So now the choice is between Ultra+ or hairworks. Now to see if there are any issues while playing.
Edit: all of this was with vkd3d-proton master from tonight. Without the fixes from today it didn't work at all.

The good news is that several issues seem to have been fixed in vkd3d already. You should probably read issues loosely since they appear to be on the CDPR side and they "just" needed to be worked around.

Gave the update a quick try on desktop. Without changes on dx12 I just get an "endless" black screen after the launcher. Same for proton 7.0-5 and proton experimental. Didn't try dx11 because lunch time is over!

I'm hoping to stretch any GPU purchase for another generation. But things definitely looked good for this card!

Quoting: GuestI mostly think it's just Nvidia's crap implementation of RTX into Portal that is causing these issues.RTX remix is a bit of a weird thing. Using dxvk to convert the stuff to Vulkan and heavy handing ray tracing into it. Doubt that this will ever get beyond tech demo level.
Wine 7.22 out now with more 32bit on 64bit work

Quoting: Big_and_donkeyThe thinking was that if wine actually implements stuff in the 32 bit libraries, that it would be moved to 64 bit code and out of the address space of the windows executable.Quoting: EhvisI'm curious about one thing. Would 32-on-64 increase the usable memory for 32 bit software in Wine? If that is the case, then it would be a benefit for 32bit games that suffer from OOM crashes in proton. Borderlands 2 for instance.I don't think so because I'm not sure how you would navigate things like pointers taking double the space to account for larger memory addresses. Some very low level logic could break if the program is reliant on certain types taking up a specific amount of memory.

Gave it a quick try. At default settings on a resolution of 3440x1440 it gave me about 15 fps with my 2080 Ti. The only setting that affected the fps in a significant way was the amount of DLSS with "Ultra performance" getting it up to about 50 ish. Unfortunately that produces a lot of edge artefacts and ghosting. One MAJOR flaw is that GSYNC refuses to work in this, so I got some nice tearing as a bonus. All in all, not worth it for actual playing.

Curious why this applied to mac though. I thought mac did have full support for the gog api.

Quoting: ShmerlThe usual. I don't really care about GOG SDK. Is it a multiplayer game? Why is it mandatory then?If you read between the lines, the answer is there. They used a wrapper for all the api stuff (likely an external one). The wrapper communicates with either the Steam or the GOG API but it has no fallback for a "no api" solution. And now the devs would need to go back to remove all that stuff manually in order to make it run without it.

Quoting: LoftyIm guessing using proton is probably the best way to play this now.Better for what? I played that game years ago. From the date of my achievements and the screenshots I can determine that I used my GTX970 at 3440x1440 resolution and had no performance issues. That's potato level for current standards. So maybe proton can give you more fps, but it's not really needed.
