XCOM 2's multiplayer being removed but will still work on Linux and Steam Deck

Quoting: PublicNuisanceChicken and the egg. If gamers don't support FOSS games how will they ever get to be on par ?
I don't think that's even possible. FOSS works on timeless products that can be worked on (and used) for many years. Most games are very much a quick turn around thing with a limited lifespan. It requires a lot of effort in a relatively short time which can't reasonably be set up as a FOSS environment.

How Valve Can Make the Deck Verified Program Better

Quoting: lugaidstermany native ports feel like second class citizens even when compared to proton versions.
Creative Assembly (SEGA) even started to skip creating native Linux builds with Total War: Troy, they said Proton makes it pointless. However with their newest entry Warhammer III there will be a native Linux version again (Feral Interactive).

I think the real reason was that it was Free on Epic and that it was feasible to run this using Wine/Proton. They probably did not expect to have much of a market left a year later after the exclusivity period ended.

Quoting: Liam DaweYou don't get any more official than it having EAC hooked up by the developer dorectly, with Steam clearly stating it's Verified.
Couldn't have picked a better word to typo.

Quoting: Liam DaweIt's a repeating problem. What's one of the main things people outside the Linux bubble are afraid of and turn their nose up at learning and using? The terminal. It's about knowing the audience in regards to the Steam Deck, it is *mostly* people coming from Windows and traditional consoles, and largely (in the nicest way) a large pool of tech illiterate people who prefer pressing buttons. You hook 'em in with an easy app, then you can start the terminal talk.
Yes, I understand that and I 100% agree!

Indeed, I was not objecting the use of warpinator per se (I've specified that I understand how it is useful for cross-platform use cases; using python in Windows is not a simple task at all), but the fact that you justified it through the statement: "The point is to avoid the terminal for simple guides.", that's all.
A simple guide should be useful for all people. Since most people have a system crash when they see a terminal pop up, it is not possible to make a guide for all people that has terminal usage in it. So I would have to agree with Liam, a simple guide must avoid the terminal. And "our" definition of "simple" is irrelevant there.

Quoting: EhvisYou'd expect this to happen because the servers would be closed down. But if that was the case, then why would Linux no be affected? Is MP not shared with Windows for this one either and my just using Steam? Strange separation in any case.
Like a lot of Feral ports, multiplayer I believe was not cross-platform with Windows.
This time it was. I played it with a Windows friend years ago.
That makes it even more strange. Of course there is a very simple solution to this mystery. The tweet is wrong. Maybe they meant to say that they won't be updating the Mac/Linux game to patch out the MP stuff, but that it still won't work because the servers are gone.

Bungie has more to say on Destiny 2 for Steam Deck and it's still a no

Probably a similar thing to Fortnite. Linux/wine/proton BE has a lower "security" rating due to it not being kernel level and being fundamentally difficult to fingerprint. For a manager than probably translates to lots of haxors. I vaguely remember a dev using the same reasoning to not create a native Linux port for some game.

Aperture Desk Job from Valve is out now and it's ridiculous

Fairly high production value for half an hour.

Most interesting thing was that I hadn't plugged in my controller and it said that on screen (menus still worked with mouse). When I did plug it in the message disappeared, but the controller still didn't work. Had to restart the game to make that happen. I suppose that won't be an issue on the deck.
