Just gotta hope Valves continues to manage to ramp up production rates, I suppose.

Quoting: BlackBloodRumCan't even get the steam deck itself yet (ordered 17th july) let alone parts for it :cry:That was my thought as another Q3-gang member: if all the parts go up in the next three months, I could just buy and build my own faster.
On the plus side, if they do enough parts I might be able to build my own without needing to wait for valve's less than 1 minute since launch a week's worth of pre-orders sent schedule for UK? :woot:
(for reference, valve, per week are shipping on average 20-60 seconds worth of orders for UK each week - at the rate valve are shipping I'll get mine by early 2023, or mid 2023 by my calculations based on 1 minute's worth of orders per week, despite them claiming I'm in Q3, I'm just waiting for the next delayed announcement.)
Just gotta hope Valves continues to manage to ramp up production rates, I suppose.

Quoting: tuubiDid you give the official AppImage from the Inkscape download page [External Link] a go yet? I only started it but it seems to work just fine. No, but I managed to get my Flatpak errors worked out and have 1.2 now. Now I just need to come up with a little project to try out the new features.
I've used Inkscape as long as it's been around, and Sodipodi before that. It may not be perfect, but it's still my favourite vector graphics editor. 🎔

Well, I've been using it for various projects for over a decade at this point, and I'm really excited about some of these changes. They sound pretty incredible. Unfortunately Flatpak, though saying it has Inkscape-related updates, is throwing cryptic errors at the moment so I can't try it yet…

Just that thumbnail has me wincing—since I don't feel like watching the video, anyone want to spoil it: is the upgraded glass worth it?

The Quantum Catapult origin sounds interesting. The first origin I tried when they first released was the one that starts you with an excavation site in your starting system, and I was blown away by the story it revealed (despite, on the face of it, not being as exciting as many other origins), so if it's anything like that it should be fun.
Steam Deck hits 2,500 games Verified or Playable

And I'm sure it's not like all of them are cheap asset-flips either. We always hear about the Spelunkys and FTLs and Stardew Valleys and other break-out hits, but not the presumably hundreds of solid, decent-but-nothing-amazing indie games that maybe rack up a few thousands sales over the years but never reach a thousand concurrent players.
*I wonder how much higher? Do you need five thousand game ownders around the world to get a thousand playing at the same time? Ten? Twenty?

Quoting: JpxeHuh! That's really interesting, especially that second bullet point of only ~4800 games ever having more than a thousand concurrent players. Obviously the ownership must be several times higher* than a thousand for that happen (since not everyone can be online at the same time), but still, that's a lot of game that have low enough ownership/playing rates not to reach that mark.Quoting: Philadelphus2,500! Only, what, ~55,000 more to go? :grin:I wonder how many of the games actually have players.. There's a lot of asset flips with zero or just a couple of reviews.
I kid, but obviously that's still a good milestone to hear. Wonder how high the number'll be by the time I finally get my order email in Q3?
I did some digging on steamdb
- 528 games have had over 1000 concurrent players in the last 24 hours
- ~4800 games have had over 1000 concurrent players all-time
- ~8500 games have a rating above 80%.

Linux user share on Steam hits second highest percentage in years

Quoting: GuestHDevelopers make a platform's fortunes, and Proton is shouting to developers "keep developing for windows".I think it's more Linux's <2% market share that is shouting to developers to invest their finite time in ~98% of their potential customer base. Once Linux market share rises to a "large-enough" amount (and the number of games still coming out for Window + MacOS suggests that number doesn't actually have to be all that huge, but is larger than ~1%), developers will naturally start investing in it. But the previous decade or two have definitely shown that people aren't going to adopt Linux in droves if they can only play <1/10th of the games available on Windows. I didn't come up with the analogy, but Proton is Valve's Trojan Horse against Windows: show people that yes, they can switch to Linux without giving up most of their already-purchased game libraries, and eventually some will start to switch (helped by the Deck giving people a taste of Linux in a gaming context). We're still in the transition period (which might yet prove to be years or even decades long) where the Linux market share is quietly rising while there's still no sign of increasing native ports (yet), but the early stages of spring often still look a lot like winter.
