Linux user share on Steam hits second highest percentage in years

Quoting: Guestwow if this keeps going on, in a couple of years we will take on MacOS!
Yeah, I noticed that when another article on this brought my attention to it: MacOS is down to 2.55% this month. It was higher in the past, wasn't it, and I'm not just misremembering? I've had in my head for a while that it was "about 5%". Not surprising, of course, with how Apple seems to be doing its darndest to kill off gaming on it, but still. With Linux increasing and MacOS decreasing we could surpass it in size much sooner than I would otherwise have expected.

until my PC had something of an unrelated mini-meltdown.
Are we sure it was unrelated? That sounds like something The Narrator would do…

Steam Deck updates out for Stable and Beta, better Refresh Rate Switching
1 May 2022 at 7:25 am UTC Likes: 4

Quoting: superboybotThe Phawx's latest video tested Steam Deck's RRS and found the black screen lasted about 2/5ths of a second. Assuming this newest update came after he filmed that part, the change between refresh rates must be practically instantaneous at this point.

If they keep going down this dark path, Valve will end up evoking vile powers, reaching back through time itself to deliver 'negative black screen time.'
Soon, the screen will go black for 2/5 of a second before you change the setting.

Bugsnax out on Steam, looking good on Steam Deck but tweak needed on Linux desktop

I note that, once you get in using the fix in the article, OpenGL is an option for graphics driver.

Trigon: Space Story is a fresh FTL-like space strategy game out now
29 Apr 2022 at 6:56 pm UTC Likes: 1

I played the demo when it came out for Steam Next Fest last year, and just…wasn't sold on it. I found the graphics actually made things less comprehensible at a glance compared to FTL, unfortunately. (Like, the icons for each room being tiny and in the corner, rather than clearly spread out face-on on a floor tile of the room.) Now that it's out I should perhaps at least find video of someone playing it and see if that's been improved.

Quoting: subWasn't that planned to be a free upgrade for those already owning it?
I think I remember that too. But Plans change I guess?

Well with the discount you can think of it as a 16$ addon to a 9$ game.
As a dedicated player of Paradox games: wow, sounds like a great deal!

I played a few hours last night (found the New Content, won't spoil it!), and found I had a silly grin plastered to my face pretty much the entire time. I found the original through watching someone's video on it, so it was fun to go in un-spoiled this time. Maybe I'm just a sucker for metahumor, but I could listen to The Narrator yammer on all day. (Luckily I've spent enough time listening I can hear anything I read in his voice, if I want.)

Terraformers, a relaxed game about turning the Red Planet green, out now

Quoting: Purple Library GuySay, Philadelphus, you look kind of different. I could swear you used to be a lot more green, and less anthropomorphic.
New year, new me! [External Link] Okay, it's almost 4 months late, but, still!

I think I'd be afraid to touch it, since my brain would keep thinking I'm about to short out some sensitive electronic doohickey.

Quoting: anewsonSeen this game a lot on Twitch lately, but had no idea what was going on. Enjoyed the writeup, thanks. Just me or are there a lot of Mars games coming out lately? Red Planet Farming and Planet Crafter come to mind.
Cheers! That does seem to be the case. There's also Ad Astra Per Aspera, which came out in 2020.

Paradox announce Crusader Kings III: Fate of Iberia and Surviving Mars Content Packs
23 Apr 2022 at 7:55 pm UTC

Well, Surviving Mars was only published by Paradox, not developed by them, but even their in-house developed grand-strategy games all play quite differently despite the superficial similarities. I personally really enjoy Europa Universalis IV and Stellaris*, but have mostly bounced off Crusader Kings II and Hearts of Iron IV. Some people enjoy all of them, others find only one or two really "click".

*And Surviving Mars to an extent, though I think mostly because I got it when the Green Mars expansion came out; without that long-term reward of watching the planet get terraformed I don't think I'd enjoy it as much.
