Quoting: SadL..personally I had no issues with Civ V or Civ VI ..should I feel lucky? From what i understand , they both using AMD gpu's. I'm on Nvidia like you and never had a problem.
Regardless, I really like Civilization series (big fan since 1991) and I want a native build (obviously it's always good to have other options like proton/wine as well).
The previous comments make me worry a bit about future compatibility. I would hate it if my next gpu (or pc for that matter) had issues running these games. Hopefully Aspyr will fix the issue and then focus on improving the port.

Quoting: GuestPerhaps support for amdgpu and radeonsi would be fine as well. IIRC CIV VI has no official support for those drivers at all and there are a lot of serious issues with the port when attempting to run them on Linux using MESA...I have Civ5 , Fahrenheit , Borderlands 2 from Aspyr and they work without issues. Though i'm on Nvidia.
It doesn't help that the ports of Civ V and Beyond earth are BROKEN and crash constantly...
I am very dissappointed with Aspyr i don't remember a single port from them without serious issues. Especially when those games become older, they tend to break in many ways... I just hope Civ VII port goes to Feral...

Quoting: Whitewolfe80Did you turn on Vulkan renderer of Mad Max?Quoting: dpanterWell so far under linux and using the mesa drivers the rx 550 delivers 30 fps in the desert and about 23/27 in camps at 1080p putting it down to 768p (high) and sees a return of 42 in camps and around 50 in desert. To be honest the figure surprised me given i had heard how bad this card was but i did at least see it with my own eyes granted i didnt sit and watch for 30 minutes it was more like 5 minutes. However he seems to be happy with the fact he can run it he basically plays mad max csgo and rocket league so he is more than happy with linux so far granted its only been two days but still hopefully he sticks with it.Quoting: Whitewolfe80question on mesa performance and mad max i have a 4gb rx 550 being used on friend windows build ... he gets about 55/60 fps at 1080p med on windows 10.:O
RX 550, 60 fps in Mad Max, 1080p, medium??
Dude, I find that somewhat hard to believe... but I'll take your word for it. Accepting those numbers as correct, I'd say the performance will be fine in Linux with Mesa (although there isn't much actual performance to begin with in this little runt of a card. :P)
The RX 550 is about as powerful as a handful of pocket lint. Comparable to the pathetic GTX 1030. Very low end cards, to call them 'gaming cards' would be extremely generous... but hey, if it runs, it runs, right?
I have a low profile RX 550 myself in a tiny HP machine so I'm allowed to sh*t on this card.

Reasons :
1-) They made a great show with Vulkan on both Doom and Wolfenstein 2. They literally brought awareness from all sides.
2-) Historically , id Software is a great company. Even when all industry goes for MS Api's , they sticked to open graphics api's like OGL. And today with Vulkan.
3-) They are really Linux friendly actually but Bethesda won't let them to do that sadly.
So even my money goes to Bethesda , i know i can play id Software games with no performance impact on my Linux system thanks to their api choices. Also Valve will provide support for these titles. At least whitelisted ones.

Quoting: EhvisI think otherwise at that situation. Because of id Software.Quoting: kibblesProton came out and I only had about two games to test it with since I only buy linux native ports. Luckily one of them was DOOM, just couldn't pass that one up. I waited and waited for feral to port it and finally caved. Great game, feral really missed some sweet sweet $ with that one...It's not like Feral can just say to them that they are going to do that. They need permission. And this is Bethesda, they'll never give it. And to show my support for their rigidity, I'll never buy anything that benefits them.

If they don't want to invest so much , they can also take route of Wine+DXVK wrapped solution for their old titles.

Quoting: mylkaThey can do it , at least they did it for Mac with Metal.Quoting: LeopardVulkan for some older titles would be nice , like Deus EX:MD , HITMAN and Shadow of Mordor.but that costs money and i dont think, that they have this capacity
btw hitman has vulkan

For games that is certain to not get Linux ports ( like Skyrim , Doom etc ) , i'm just waiting for sales. Since they are coming to me in a semi-official way now , Valve will provide some kind of support. So , why not?

Quoting: M@GOidIf my experience with Proton means something, Feral is pretty safe. Unless Proton magically hits Gallium 9 levels of performance, their ports will always be better. While i'm also keeping No tux , no bucks , with Proton i kinda loosen it up a bit.
And I still keep my promise of "no tux, no bux".

Quoting: GuestNo , Proton can't connect servers until they update their runtime.Quoting: appetrosyanSo is Q:C working good in Proton now? Last time I tried it, couldn't even connect to the serversQuoting: LeopardAmen to that!Quoting: GuestWith these changes they could whitelist quite a lot of games soon!Witcher 3 being first , many Unity games included. Also Quake Champions.
Also is it safe? The game defintely uses a form of anti-cheat and could possibly detect proton as cheating and don't wanna get myself banned
Would be great to have it working under linux as I've been playing Q:C alot lately on my windows install
