Feral Interactive are teasing a new Linux port, time to start guessing

I remember OS/2 Warp too, I experienced there for the first time that you could do two things at the same time on a computer. In my case creating archives in one window and already copying the first part onto a floppy ;).

Quoting: GuestYeah, that's a valid thought. Let's hope the future turns out in favor of Linux.Quoting: jensIn my opinion it's the other way around. Linux is loosing some native games in the sort term due to Proton. But in the end Proton may help to substantially increase Linux market share and visibility to reach a point where Linux will be considered earlier in the gaming development process. This may lead to more native games in the end.Hopefully it goes that way. My pessimism is from actually being around in the OS/2 and DOS era, and watching OS/2 disappear when it basically became redundant once it was DOS/Windows compatible. Developers saw that they could just develop for Windows and not worry about OS/2, as it was compatible. We all know how that one ended.
So I see some dangerous parallels here. But maybe I am just being overly pessimistic. If you're into computers for long enough, you begin to see history repeat itself. Just gives me an uneasy feeling.
Anyway, enough of a distraction from this thread. I hope (and expect) this to be Shadow of the Tomb Raider, which will be a day-1 buy for me. I won't buy the Windows version for exactly the reasons stated above.

Quoting: wvstolzingYes, sure. Though with gaming, Proton counts as Linux, Steam in Wine counts as Windows.Quoting: jensBut in the end Proton may help to substantially increase Linux market share and visibility to reach a point where Linux will be considered earlier in the gaming development process. This may lead to more native games in the end.Wine contributes to making people less dependent on windows licenses; that can only help Linux adoption in the long run.

Quoting: EikeYes, I haven't invested that many hours, but I remember similar disturbing situations. Playing this game should be mandatory for everyone to get an understanding what war actually means.Quoting: GuestThis War Of Mine is boring as shit, it's just a grind, after you understand how the game works, it's just a loop of doing the same thing(s) over and over and over until you get bored and quit.On my first night out...
Don't understand the weird hype surrounding it, I mean it was a cool concept and all but not that well executed.
I stumbled into the house of an elderly couple. They begged me not to take their medicine, only some food if I needed to. I took the food and left them the medicine they needed to survive.
Some nights later...
I came back and took everything. We needed it to survive.
I never came back to see what happened to the elderly couple.

This is one of the very few decisions I remember that well in my gaming history.

"Shadow of the Tomb Raider" would be wonderful and a first day purchase from me. Assuming that the picture represents the Nazca lines in Peru, SotTR would actually fit.
Quoting: GuestNo matter how good Proton becomes, or how many games it enables for Windows, I just can't kill that nagging feeling that it will be a story of "winning the battle but losing the war".In my opinion it's the other way around. But in the end Proton may help to substantially increase Linux market share and visibility to reach a point where Linux will be considered earlier in the gaming development process. Quoting: raverrebelMay I suggest to move any DRM-free related discussions to the forum?Quoting: GuestJust fyi, some titles in steam are drm-free and don't need steam running.Quoting: GuestYeah, i too would buy Linux native Blizzard games but they already told us our numbers are too small.DRM doesn't have anything to do with it, as far as I'm aware. The titles they port are pretty much Steam exclusives anyway, regardless of platform. Nobody from Feral has ever said "we need DRM before we port" - that's just coming from that they games they do port are on Steam only. Correlation is not causation.
Cyberpunk 2077 would be wonderful news but CDPR releases non-DRM games and i have heard Feral doesn't port those so it is even less likely to happen.
NVIDIA released a new 415.13 beta driver recently for Linux

396.18 Beta - April 10th 2018
396.24 - May 2nd 2018
410.57 Beta - September 19th 2018
410.66 - October 16th 2018
Lets see what happens, would be cool if the NVidia engineers are able to include the transform feedback extensions for the first 415 non-beta release.

Quoting: EhvisThe last three beta drivers were more or less current for a month until the first non-beta release arrived. E.g:Quoting: PatolaHave they finally added stream output to this driver?According to a post with the phoronix article, it contains the Vulkan Beta stuff up to 396.54.06, which means that transform feedback is still lacking.

This is expected to happen and I guess a sensible decision by smaller teams. Let's focus on the long-term. Higher market share and Linux visibility is still the most important goal to reach imho, everything else will follow. Proton/Steam Play contributes to that, so I'm cool :)

Quoting: GoboI guess Linux is hardly used in China (and may be that applies to other Asian countries as well). Does anybody knows if this is correct and what the reason could be?Language shifts quite drastically between combined and Linux only scores for English and Chinese, on Linux those seem to combine to plain English. Other languages like Russian or German remain quite constant instead. Is Linux lacking some essential support for Chinese or do they not bother to setup their regional settings over there when using Linux? Or is Linux hardly ever used in China at all, as indicated by their low language score of 0.07%?

Quoting: slaapliedjeAs far as I know Steam is included in rpmfusion, but not directly in Fedora, though I somehow prefer the repositories from negativo17.Quoting: jensEverything fine here on Fedora 29 (and last week on 28) with Steam and the Steam Controller.Curious, I thought Steam was in Fedora's repo, any reason to use an outside one? (I have a strong hatred for using third party repositories, which is why I tend to stick to Debian because they package about everything under the sun!)
