Quoting: liamdaweMy bad but am still sceptical whenever i see confirmed as coming to linux until you know its out because we are still waiting for Witcher 3, Street Fighter 5, Carmageddon, Phoenix point ( i know they cancelled it outright but it was promised for over a year) Batman Arkham Knight and a laundry list of games promised yet never delivered.Quoting: Whitewolfe80Isnt double fine now owned by microsoft so is this still coming to linux ?The confirmation is right there, two links in the first part of the article.

Quoting: LinuxwarperAnticheat working with Proton will be the next big thing. As much as I want Linux ecosystem to grow, I really can't justify the expectation of a linux port. It may not popular opinion but developers can probably make more money instead of supporting Linux. FURTHERMORE many of the supposedly native Linux ports are lacking. What good is the game running on Linux if it's not properly developed and optimized for the platform?Oh I know i get it but it went from being a big do not want to this is the future. I am hoping the number of liunx gamers increases as much as its not always been a brilliant vocale for linux gaming linus video annoying entitled gaming on linux doesnt suck now and windows should be worried if nothing else have the potentinal to be seen by 9 million people that are subbed to linus. But even with that and the funding valve continue to pump in we are sitting at 1 percent still.
Proton is as far as I see it a great solution for developers who have modest interest in Linux but can't justify supporting the platform.
And in chosing Vulkan to ensure the game complies with Proton, indirectly it will pave the way for a future where crossplatform software are used. This will inevitably lead to native ports for all platforms and the optimization will be largely the same for them. The way I see it the important issues for Linux gaming, at this point in time with our 1% marketshare, isn't native support but anticheat working with Proton or/and Proton being further polished (D9VK maturing more for example).
Quoting: Whitewolfe80It is interesting how accepting/resigned to the fact that proton is the best way to game on linux these days. When it first came out many said as long as native ports dont suffer well lets be brutally honest if its not from Feral vp or nightdrive its not coming natively to linux. Proton is the reality of linux gaming dont get me wrong am not down on it think its a great investment by valve and a sensible business decision vs windows and Epic store. But back to my original point we kind of all got to the point of meh what you going to do very quickly. The reason for this makes perfect sense. Linux has 1% marketshare. In my opinion, with some exceptions, making a Linux port is not worth it. Because of that I am content playing games through Proton as long as it runs well.
But if ever the time comes where Linux gains 10% marketshare, I will no longer be happy with Proton and demand native port. Because at that point developers will have little to no excuse for doing a native release, and I will consider it a big negative if developers rely on Proton.

The lack of support and zero intention of future linux game development can be best as described as well duh since you never supported the one you had. But it is good that he has been upfront and honest and hasnt done his usual job of sniping at linux gamers. I was never going to play it to be honest sucks for the people that liked rust hopefully Easy cheat find a work around for valve.

I lack the creative skills to take on a game with the engine however i am pleased to see the continued progress on this i hope this engine is picked up and used in more projects.

Defiant Development, makers of Hand of Fate are closing up and moving on

I know it sounds harsh and am sure they put hard work and passion into their projects sometimes it pays off but for every shovel knight and owl boy i can show you 400 hundred pieces of crap that slimed onto steam. It does beg a question though as Hellblade sold really well, it was budgeted well in fact the game cost less than 2 million dollars to make and it recouped that and then some. However they did'nt have enough money to carry on being independent.
Lots of questions there are game developers chasing trends and features nobody asked for are game devs chasing photo realistic graphics and spending hundreds of millions on r and d for those kind of features that again nobody but the graphics snobs asked for. Personally out of all this uncertainly i am just hoping a studio comes along that just makes single player games with compelling stories and settings rather than another fps shooter with yet another battle royale mode and am aware that i am in minority i know they are popular but a guy can dream.

Quoting: RoosterThat's a real pity, but also very strange. I was under the impression that both Hand of Fate games sold quite well. But it seems not well enough.Depends how they spent the money though if they invested it were thrifty keeping to budget or did they go all scheffer and blow cash on parties for the studio and buy drink and top of the line equipment when it wasnt needed. We wont know we will never see the books. But i think that is why we are seeing previous hold outs run back to major publishers Ninja/Platnium we ve seen koch media group jetison their once cash cow studio darling deep silver and sell it on to THQ nordic lots of changes and scarily the march back towards there only being 5 publishers in the market seems to be plodding on. While i agree there are a ton of games released every day mostly indie many of them are to be polite crap.
