EVERSPACE 2 out now, devs focus on Proton for Linux - Steam Deck optimizations planned

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI do think continuing to promise right until the last minute wasn't ideal.
Pretty sure that's because they were pulling out all the stops to try to make it happen. I'm with Corben on this - RFG should be applauded for their approach here, and certainly not vilified for failing to make up for Epic's lack of commitment to the Linux version of their own engine.

Just another reason to snort derisively the next time Tim Sweeney opens his voice and re-invents the meaning of common words to sell some twisted narrative that he's the good guy.

Battlestar Galactica Deadlock is free to keep this weekend

Not my kind of game, but I downloaded it to give it a shot and it worked "fine". Quotes because it crashed after the initial cinematic, but reloading it gave me 10 minutes playing the tutorials. Looks like a great freebie for 4X fans.

Quoting: pete910To be honest Shmerl that's shocking perf on that hardware. It's not even that graphical intensive going on those screen shots.
The performance isn't great, but Everspace 2 is one of the more graphically intensive games I've come across. The seamless transitions from cave complexes to open space, or world surface is incredible - a truly, breathtakingly beautiful game. If you don't turn on any upscaling (which I doubt Schmerl did, given his previously stated opinion on upscaling ), it's a very, very demanding game.

Quoting: GuestOne less game to play.
Thanks proton.
More. One more game to play, thanks to Proton. Because as you can read from the article, the game wouldn't be released for playable on Linux at all were it not for Proton.

Edit: Thanks dpanter...

GOG giving away Deep Sky Derelicts during the finale of their Spring Sale

Deep Sky Derelicts is pretty damn entertaining, a fine deck builder with some cracking squad choices to keep things fresh. It's a slow starter though, so persevere for a couple of hours and you'll be rewarded with some satisfying gameplay.

Xwayland Video Bridge created to improve Linux screen sharing
23 Mar 2023 at 7:12 pm UTC

This feels like it's doing for apps/windows what OBS does for cameras. Cool idea, but tbh, while hacks like this are needed, and given that so much of my job involves screensharing from various apps/windows... I'm gonna be on X for years to come.

Having said that, I suppose the bulk of my sharing is from Chrome, running O365, so I guess I could experiment a little, since there's Wayland support there already. It really does feel like a lot of extra hassle for security features I won't notice or benefit from anyway (as a single-user system used to browse mainly very trusted sites).

Quoting: AnaWhats the game in shot? :)
Not completely sure, but I think it's Chained Echoes, which Liam gave a glowing review a few months back.

Edit - or... it might be Octopath Traveller, or its sequel?

Edit again - goddamit, this is a rabbit hole! Googling Lloyd and Tio suggests that actually, we're looking at Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero [External Link]

Warside is a pixel-art turn-based tactics game much like Advance Wars
21 Mar 2023 at 6:25 pm UTC

As Cyril notes, Wargroove also promised an Advance Wars feel, just like Symphony of War promised a Fire Emblem feel. They come close, but just didn't click for me. Makes me realise all the little touches and perfectionism that goes into a Nintendo title. The artwork is there in a lot of cases, but it's the underlying gameplay and mechanics that make these games special.

Time will tell - this does look particularly faithful to Advance Wars. Hopefully the Devs "got" what makes that game special - the characters, the balance, the "easy to learn, hard to master" aspects of it all.

Fond memories of Monkeyball on my GameCube, and then the incredible motion-sensitive Super Monkeyball sequel on the Wii. This game is giving off a great vibe!

HAHAHAHAHA! very smart joke. Torchlight is mobile game now. so cant be matched to this masterpiece.
Dunno about v3, but Torchlight 1 and 2 were both superb. What's your beef? Why the weird antagonism towards it?

Quoting: GuestHow's the game? Is it any good compared to Torchlight?
It's less focused on loot whoring. Instead, you earn your money through kills and quests. Instead of giving you tools to sell loot, like Torchlight, Last Epoch has the most incredible loot filters I've ever seen in a game. You effectively build a firewall ruleset out of loot filters, line by line. Sure, that could be a single line saying don't show tier 1 or 2 items. But it can also be insanely complex, like:
  • Hide T1 and T2

  • But show all axes, regardless of Tier

  • Capitalise any equipment that does Necrotic Damage

  • And re-colour any Axes that also do Necrotic Damage to RED.

  • Never show Staves or Wands of any Tier

  • And so on...
It's insane! So powerful! And intuitive (mostly).

Last Epoch is a strong candidate for best ARPG in my book. I still miss some things from Grim Dawn:
  • Grim Dawn had better voice acting

  • Grim Dawn zooms out just a bit more, which is far more comfortable

  • Grim Dawn lets you rotate the map, which makes "fighting downwards" a non-issue, you just rotate down to up!

But all told, it's very nice.
