Sorry for the confusion. I was saying the Stadia controller would benefit from removable batteries. I agree with you.

Quoting: EagleDeltaIs anyone else having issues with Steam not recognizing the right analog stick properly?
Okay, I wasn't sure if it was just me and my system (I have a lot of weird controllers). Initially no matter how many times I saved my custom controller layout the right joystick would revert to being mapped to left and right trigger.

I had to outright reset Steam's gamepad configuration and then I was able to properly define and save the Stadia controller's layout.

• Open ~/.local/share/Steam/config/config.vdf with a text editor
• Search for "SDL_GamepadBind" and delete everything underneath it (or if you really want, just the Stadia controller entry)
• restart steam and calibrate/define the controller's layout

Updated the controller I hung onto but I can't say I'll be using it over my King Kong Pro 2 (or anything with Hall effect sensors).

Nevertheless these controllers are excellent, especially for kids. Hell with the build quality and current used prices the Stadia controller may be one of the best bluetooth controllers for kids (or parents with kids - tandem mode!) ever (just needs removable batteries  ). I'd already given my 3 other controllers to friend's for such purposes and I'll be sure to pass the update news along to them.

I feel a hell of a lot better about those gifts now. Thank you Google.

Having a 5800X3D for about a month I will never go back to a non 3d sku for gaming. Compared to my 5950X the 5800x3d is a substantial improvement in the games I play (Hunt Showdown, Sea of Thieves, Valheim) and especially those running through proton. Sea of Thieves specifically gains over a hundred fps in specific areas maxed at 1440P, without a GPU change.

I feel no pressure to upgrade from my 5800X3d/6900XT for 1440P/144, but as always, I'm tempted.

Steam Deck OS 3.4 Preview adds support for 8BitDo Ultimate Wireless controller dongle

Quoting: Liam DaweHow hard are you guys pushing your pads? 😂 In all my years of gaming, I've never once had this issue.
Trust me, I used to think people were abusing their Decks when those posts started appearing. It had never happened to me until this year and only with the two "controllers" mentioned. I've never had it happen on a first party Xbox or Playstation controller.

I'm blaming Elden Ring 😂 but I still take better care of my Deck than I do myself so it's not a matter of abuse.

Quoting: Liam DawePlastic on Plastic is almost every major controller out there though, I’ve never seen it as a problem?
Correct, and it's not a problem on most controllers but on some the plastic becomes rough and rotating the joystick around is no longer smooth. This grinding sensation during joystick movement is noticeable and very distracting (most commonly the left joystick in the "up" direction). Unfortunately happened to my Steam Deck and now the 8BitDo Ultimate. I'm willing to file down the joysticks on my steam deck as I'm replacing them with the Gulikit sensors anyway but I'm not willing to do so on a brand new $80 controller when better alternatives exist.

Quoting: t3gHas anyone tried the 2.4ghz dongle with Ubuntu 22.04 or something with a newer 6.x kernel like Pop OS, Arch, or Fedora?
Yes, after flashing the beta firmware update it works in dinput/switch mode. That being said I'm still returning mine. The 2.4Ghz is nice but I cannot deal with the plastic on plastic joystick grinding I experienced on the ultimate in less than a week of use. The gulikit king kong 2 pro also has hall effect sensors AND has a metal ring around the joysticks and after using it I can't go back.

Quoting: PublicNuisanceStill no Coreboot support. Pass.
I'd love for this to be different but as far as I'm aware the MSI PRO Z690-A DDR4 is the only "off-the-shelf" motherboard with coreboot support with the MSI PRO Z690-A DDR5 being worked on now [External Link]. While that's now an older 12th gen board I'm at least hopeful that this standardization work around coreboot will ease future motherboard support.

Correct, as far as I'm aware this [External Link] is still the only way to play the bedrock edition on Linux, with some caveats.

Isonzo is a new WW1 FPS from the dev of Verdun out now
14 Sep 2022 at 3:54 pm UTC

Quoting: Purple Library GuyWell, Italy might be a bit different I suppose. I mean, I'm not an FPS fan in the first place, but I would have figured a normal France-based WW I shooter to be kind of boring--you stick your head up out of the trenches, get it shot off, lather, rinse and repeat.
You just summarized Verdun. There's Verdun (French trench warfare), Tannenburg (German eastern front - so snowy mountains/forests) and now Isonzo with Italy.

I have to wonder what's next for the franchise but I'd bet my bottom dollar that it'll be an entirely new game.
