Sorry Arch (EndeavourOS), it's not working out any more and hello Fedora
8 Apr 2022 at 1:33 pm UTC

Normally I'd use Rawhide's (latest un-branched Fedora release - so "37" right now) kernel with nodebug turned on to get the latest kernel on Fedora but recently I've been using this copr repo [External Link] to get the xanmod kernel which has things the fedora kernels don't yet (futex2, etc.).

Rawhide no debug kernel for those interested. [External Link]

The fedora upgrade cycle has been rock solid for me, even to beta releases.

Out of the box sure but PeaZip in Discover works great.

I can't stop touching my DECK either. In bed, at the airport, or even in the public library...I just can't stop. My girlfriend is jealous and my friends have all blocked me for "too many unsolicited DECK pics," whatever that means.

This game would be perfect in a 4-pack combo. I've already purchased two copies myself because of this news, so thank you.

Major flashbacks to 3DO army men games on the playstation 1.

If you're okay with running a beta release of Fedora you can already upgrade to Fedora 36 and get GNOME 42. The official beta release iso should be coming tomorrow.

I've had no issues upgrading to a beta release in my years of using Fedora.

We're going to be adding in some Steam Deck related questions too. What do you want to see?
Most played game on Deck or the number of games installed? I can potentially see disk size + external storage capacity breakdowns being interesting.

Assassin's Creed 3 4, Black Flag
I don't know why this bothers me so much but it does, unless the issue is trying to say Assassin's Creed 3 and Black Flag.

Edit: Heh, even phoronix user's are commenting on this. Phoronix decided to paraphrase the release notes into:

There are known fixes/improvements for Assassin's Creed 3: Black Flag, Frostpunk, God of War, GTA: San Andreas, and Rayman Origins.
That can't be interpreted to mean both, heh.

Microsoft announce Xbox Cloud Gaming for Steam Deck with Edge (Beta)

[After having tested playing Fable II - first xcloud experience]

When I encountered that "ping" sound while attempting to launch the game straight from launching edge I had to open the search bar -> search for the game -> click game -> then click play. For whatever reason that works every time.

I can't see myself paying $15/month after my trial ends just for Fable II but in my testing on my home network (gigabit internet) it works quite well on deck.

I really appreciate the integration from MS here though seeing an Xcloud-specific flatpak might be the cleaner way forward.

Valve reduces size of Steam Deck Client in the latest update

If anything these articles save me from pressing "check for updates" every 15 seconds on my deck. I've never been so invested in a device's software updates.

I'm going to await further release cadence clarifications from Valve but the 5 available update channels are tantalizing. I'd assume Stable (Default - duh) <- Release Candidate <- Beta <- Beta Candidate <- Main.

Glad to see I'm not the only one experiencing this. It's happened twice thus far.
