I'm now a true convert after using a Vertical Mouse
4 Aug 2021 at 3:38 pm UTC Likes: 1

My GF is using a vertical mouse as well as her hand strains very easily (and always did). Really helped her with that.

I don't really have that problem, so I just don't feel the need to try it out.
Who knows, though, like most other people, I don't get younger.

Valve fires back in the lawsuit from Wolfire Games
2 Aug 2021 at 6:18 pm UTC

I mean... what else is Valve supposed to say in their statement?

Quite curious where it'll lead in the end.

Especially because one of the issues is apparently a clause one where one party claims it doesn't even exist.
If that's really the case, then... ???????

Wine 6.14 released with Mono updates, more prep work for GDI syscall interface

So.... do you have a document in which you just record all the Wine puns and references, and in 10 years time you'll publish a book "The 500 best wine puns - Uncorked edition"?

Cause that's what I'd do.

Feral no longer porting A Total War Saga: TROY to Linux, citing less demand since Proton
27 Jul 2021 at 4:32 pm UTC Likes: 5

My biggest problem with Feral ports (at least for CA games) has always been the VERY slow speed of updates compared to the Windows version.

How long is the latest TW: WH2 patch & DLC out now? Two weeks?
Feral STILL has not released the Linux port.
If people were waiting to play it, they will do so once everyone else has already moved on...

Same thing with mods. If a mod is updated to support the latest patch, it means the mod won't work with the current Linux version.

I know the blame for this isn't only Feral's, it is possible they are getting access to the files for porting way too late to do anything about it.
But their communication is equally vague and useless (e.g. still no release date for the latest TW:WH2 patch & DLC). They've even locked the thread on the Steam forums because people were calling them out on their non-communication...

I've been using Proton for Total War games for a while now. Also means I can play online with friends, most of which do not use Linux or Mac.

Alexis Kennedy of Weather Factory puts out open letter against Failbetter Games

Quoting: slapinI think if accused in public one is to fight in public for the silence is considered guilty.
That's definitely true, but unfortunately it can sometimes take months to actually gather all the receipts to prove one's innocence, present them in a coherent way, etc.
Because that's how social media and PR works: Guilty until proven innocent.

In other cases, people are just overwhelmed by the shitstorm and retreat into the turtle shell of social isolation for recovery. Which is a very understandable reaction, only very few people are built to withstand public shunning by large amounts of haters based on mostly lies and misconceptions.

I do like that more and more developers start to fight back against cancel culture - it has clearly gone way too far.

For some time, anyone could pretty much claim anything and the victim would immediately get publicly shamed, fired, funds withdrawn, silent treatment from "friends", etc. - all without any real proof whatsoever.
The accusation itself serves as all the proof that is needed on social media - and too many people are afraid of social media sh*tstorms, so especially PR-run companies comply.

Weatherfactory was lucky that Creative Europe is apparently not run by people like that and could keep their funds.

The more people fight back against it, the more people will actually dare to do so.
A good development for once.

Netflix is getting into video games, so we'll have another cloud gaming service
15 Jul 2021 at 6:49 pm UTC

Quoting: F.UltraThat is your opinion, actual paedophilia survivors however paint a completely different picture:
That's not an opinion.
It is (both theoretically and practically) impossible to film sexualized minors without filming sexualized minors. Therefore, any new footage of that kind can only be obtained by actually doing it. Unlike e.g. war imagery, this cannot really be faked well.

Quoting: F.UltraMeanwhile it looks like most of the outrage against the film comes from the religious right.
Well, I'm neither religious nor right-wing, and I haven't seen a majority of criticism of it coming in that light. Just people from all over the political spectrums criticizing the movie for what it is and/or how it was made.

But, sure, putting people who disagree with you in a box with other people you disagree with is always a nice thing to do.

Quoting: F.UltraThe film reached top 5 in Netflix among it's USA customers.
Obviously, after all the drama. Doesn't speak for or against any of the points raised.

Quoting: F.UltraThat is how films/books done to raise awareness of topics have been done since the invention of fiction. Compare with anti war movies like Platoon, Apocalypse Now and so on.
So, the creators of Platoon, Apocalypse Now and so on actually waged war and killed people to film their movie?
Because that's the only way this comparison makes any sense.

Cuties actually exploited and sexualized minors in order to make a movie that is supposed to criticize exactly that.

Quoting: DribbleondoThe controversy over Cuties was only over the initial poster (and mostly in the US alone) by Netflix,
That's just what sparked it.
The real controversy were the... let's call them dance scenes.

Quoting: DribbleondoThe sexualisation of minors is despicable....which is what this film's message is.
So why did they have to sexualize minors in order to deliver that message?
The dance scenes, for example, would have been a lot more effective if they had shown only the audience's reaction. No need to actually go and film some 11 year old grinding their... nah, I'm not even gonna describe it.

Quoting: F.UltraOnce released it has been given high scores by film critics and have a 88% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Only further cementing the worthlessness and out-of-touch-ness of "professional" critics. A bunch of pseudo-intellectual failures high on their own farts, nothing more.
The only relevant score for any piece of media is the user score, and that one speaks for itself.
