As a GNOME user since about 2003, I'm frankly surprised they didn't just take away our ability to pick files instead.

Does Valve do anything to combat bloat with Proton on Steam Deck? I didn't look too deeply into it, but my compatdata directory currently holds 21GB of data, most of which I believe to be copies of Proton, mostly in the 200-450MB range per directory.

Quoting: hardpenguinMeanwhile I opted out from beta branch because not happy with the new BPM and recent breakages.I like the change in the look of it, and the fact that the Store works (had a lot of errors in old BPM). But there are some niggling issues, like turning off a gamepad pops up a button combo list that I can't figure out how to dismiss without turning the gamepad back on, and, more importantly for me, gamepad support in Elden Ring is broken (works from desktop mode, though...). Trying to get gamescope working properly, and after much mucking around, it's "working" (gamepad AND Steam overlay!), only I seem to be stuck at 720p now. Really shouldn't have to use a third-party tool from outside Steam to play a game properly on Steam, though.
Also, this:

Hard to be excited about these numbers.

Can't argue with Elden Ring winning. I expected I'd like the idea, die a bunch of times in the first 4 hours, and give up, just like Demon's Souls (although I put 12 hours into that). 150 hours later, Elden Ring is easily my GOTY, and one of my favourites of all time, I'm sure.
No Man's Sky and Vampire Survivors (edit: and Scorn) got robbed, though.

Chained Echoes is as close as you can get to retro-styled RPG perfection

Wishlisted, for when I'm done with Elden Ring. If that day ever comes.

Quoting: hardpenguinIt WAS a feature, for me... Can't play Elden Ring with a gamepad using the new BPM. But if I switched over to old BPM using that feature, my controller would work fine. Can't do that anymore, have to quit entirely out of Steam and launch without the -gamepadui option. Annoying bug, hope they get it soon.Fixed the old version of Big Picture Mode opening when hitting the Steam/Guide button on the Steam windowI thought it was a feature? 😂
Valve has improved the new Big Picture Mode for Desktop quite a bit in a new Beta

I liked the old Big Picture mode enough to use it, but it's been basically broken for me for a couple years. I can launch games, and not much else. Store and community stuff always gives errors. Really, you can tell it's been neglected for quite some time. I thought it was something on my end, but wiping and reinstalling didn't help. Broken the same way on multiple computers, too.
I love the new UI. Been wanting it ever since the first Steam Deck images came out. Obviously it needs work yet, and it's been improving basically daily. Right now my biggest complaint is that I can't seem to get my DualShock 4 working with Elden Ring anymore. I even tried using something called gamescope, but no joy so far.

I had issues with Origin, so I avoided buying EA games whenever possible. I hope this new thing is less annoying. I don't even understand why it's allowed on Steam to have these intermediate launcher things. They never make anything easier, faster, or better in any way.

Kinda sad that a handheld game console boosts up our numbers so much. Soon, Deck will be higher than desktop Linux users. Good for the dozens of us out there, but still sad our numbers are so low.
