Civilization VI - New Frontier Pass launches without Linux and macOS

Quoting: lqe5433Proton is too good. It's killing the Linux porting business.
In this case Proton doesn't work however..
Both DX11 and DX12 versions play the intro and then crash with a grey screen..

Quoting: gojulIt definitely looks like Aspyr dropped the ball as a whole on Linux market. It was already the case prior to Proton release but this just confirms, sadly.
The Mac folks are raging quite heavily in the Steam forums too..

Sid Meier's Civilization VI is getting 6 new DLC and 6 free updates with the 'New Frontier Pass'

Quoting: Liam DaweOkay, fair enough. I won't argue that point. I just think it's good Civ VI will be continuing to see updates and I am glad about that but I agree the situation elsewhere is not good and I hope they eventually say something in regards to the Borderlands 2/TPS situation.
Aspyr remains silent.. 2K and Firaxis announces a simultaneous release, but the first DLC released Windows only. Lots of questions were asked, mostly about Mac support, then finally @CivGame answered on Twitter.

"We're working with our partners at Aspyr to quickly bring Civilization VI - New Frontier Pass content to Mac and Linux and will share more soon."

No word from Aspyr on Twitter or Steam.

and he says it without lying, he just means something very specific by that that the goose would not like! :)
It would be much more credible the other way around... :)

Quoting: NarcotixSomething that seemingly very few people understand, is, that we no longer live in a world where the Desktop or the end-users device is the main battlefield for the it-companies. We are moving to (or already arrived) in a world where it's all about services. So the main OS is no longer the OS running on your PC/Phone/etc, but the cloud. E.G. Google running Stadia on Linux servers with Vulkan doesn't matter at all, since it is still a highly proprietary platform.
VSCode being open source is just a smart business-move, since people are happy about having control while Microsoft can provide proprietary cloud-services in the VSCode marketplace. Don't get me wrong, I do like VSCode, i just think that people being happy about Microsoft open-sourcing stuff and bringing Edge and Teams to Linux doesn't mean they care less about money or control of their products.

Linux is the future, and it's great to see so much more embracement of Linux by companies everywhere, but at the same time: the future is not about Linux or any OS at all, but services.

Offtopic: So with cloud-gaming on the rise and being executed on highly proprietary environments that happeen to use Linux, it might become weird when Amazon and Google's services get covered here, but not Project XCloud, since they all just provide access to a proprietary service, the only difference being most of them use Linux in the background while Microsoft does not.

So, if this site wasn't all about Linux gaming but open source gaming in general we might want to get more PlayStation news, right? After all it's just a proprietary OS built around the open source FreeBSD. Pretty much the same case for Stadia, in a sense at least.
Really, I don't like the Linux kernel just because it's "the Linux kernel", but because free software empowers me to protect my data and my favoured way to do things. It even empowers me to use certain proprietary software (Steam..) in a secure fashion.
So I don't use software and services I cannot protect my interests against, like pre installed Android, Stadia, Edge....

They made their OS a data collector for their AIs. They even bought illegally obtained data from Avast anti virus software. They showed their intentions pretty open. I'm nearly 100% sure they use Edge to collect data from more sources.
What? Yes, Google is just the same... and Facebook, and ...

Funny, that's exactly what happened--Aztec science victory. In my experience from other Civ games, who has what bonuses largely ceases to matter once you've conquered half the planet. I actually ended up going for science because I suddenly realized another civ was getting there on science and conquering them might have been too slow a process to stop them, so while I started crushing them I built the ship as insurance.
Haha.. of course you can always force your opponents away from victory conditions.. :)

Quoting: Purple Library GuySlightly off topic . . . I've played Civ 6 a bit, enough to make a couple of false starts while I got things figured out and then win a game. And I pushed religion moderately hard, because it was a thing I could do. Maybe if I'd pushed religion a bit harder I could have actually won a religious victory, but I felt like if I could be dominant enough to win on religion I could probably have won with something else first (which I did).

But what I was wondering was, has anyone done some evaluating to see if it's worth it? The religious stuff gives you some perks, if you play your cards right the religious district ends up providing a moderate amount of stuff, whatever kind you're going for, and if you do it certain ways you'll get stuff for everyone that worships the religion yadda yadda. But it soaks up a ton of resources building all the holy this and holy that--not just the districts, but the wonders and stuff. Plus, it takes up space you could put other districts in, and picking religious oriented techs and civics might delay getting secular things you also want. And hey, if you skip it your people might end up worshipping someone else's religion but that won't matter after you conquer their ass. At the end I found myself wondering if all those resources poured into religion were on balance rewarding or a money pit. Anyone have any idea?
This is highly dependable on the civ you play, its bonuses, special buildings, districts, units, starting techs. You might not want to try science victory with the Aztecs, because they are aggressive militarists, you'd probably choose Korea, Sweden, Sumer.. for it. On the other hand you could try with the Aztecs, because it gives you another kind of difficulty than higher difficulty levels, which mainly give you adversary civs with higher starting bonuses...
The difficulty to win a game on the victory type you choose is also dependend from what your AI adversaries are, from their and your surrounding territory etc... I'd say you have to consider all this and find an efficient solution that's compatible with your playstyle and go for it.
But I'd say you're asking the right questions!
