Hmm:

For technical reasons the release of The Longing on GOG.com will be slightly delayed, we promise it'll be less than 400 days.
Might be related to whatever is needed to prevent "cheating". They have mentioned measures to prevent the most obvious cheating (which would be changing your computer time/date) so that people wouldn't get spoiled before their 400 days. But such a measure undoubtedly requires online access and would resemble DRM. Not entirely sure what they plan to do to get around this since gog is usually pretty strict.
Why would anyone even buy a game like this just to . . . never mind, some people would.
Well, for one, do you get a different ending if you start the game and do nothing for the entire 400 days and then log in for the final wake up of the king? If so, how many years would you have to play this game to see everything?

I also disable/remove keyring software on all my systems. I feel that hiding all your passwords behind one 'master' password is poor security in the first place.
How do you manage your passwords? I have hundreds of passwords, each random and unique.

I wonder what happens if you are not there at the exact time when the king needs to be woken up? Choose your starting day and time carefully to ensure the greatest possibility that you'll be available when the time is up.

Or you could just change your system clock.

But this is a great idea for a video game.

I think it is a trust issue. New players to a game should start with a low trust value on their ability score. Longer time players who suck (I would be one of them if I ever played multiplayer games), shouldn't necessarily match often with new players whose trust is low and therefore the assessment of their ability is unlikely to be accurate.

Of course one could always game the system and play several games pretending to be bad. But on the other hand I think it would be useful for the players themselves to give a rating or trustworthiness value to others with whom they play. As you play more and more, I'm sure you get familiar with the other players, and so you can say, "yea, I like playing with that guy, he seems to match my abilities." And then this player-made trust network can emerge.

As AMD launch the monster 3990X CPU, System76 offer it up with their stylish Thelio Major

Quoting: speskWow. Pricing is pretty competitive on the System76, all things considered. Would never be able to justify the cost for my use cases, but can't deny the temptation. Love the wood paneling look too :P

Anyone planning on actually grabbing one of these 3990X ?
Is it? I haven't specced out a PC in probably over a year now, but I thought those hard drive prices were high, even for the non-NVME ones.

But the wood sure does look nice. I've seen some DIY wood PC cases that just looked horrible. This is neat and clean and tasteful.

I'd really love to know what heat sink they're using. I figured one of these beasts would only benefit from liquid cooling. What's the mobo? How well are the VRMs cooled? So much intrigue.

Quoting: scaineIt's beginning to look like a real product - that's pretty exciting! Can anyone remember what this is supposed to cost?

And yeah, the "password" screen is murder. Hopefully they come up with a proper button/trigger-based password system instead. And hopefully it's optional anyway, or does something similar to PS4 where the password is only necessary for purchases.

Showing potential though. Great stuff!
I was curious, too. $400!

Kind of hard to decide if I would pay that or not. I really like that it is running an X86 APU, so all existing Linux and Proton games should theoretically run on it. It's just a PC you use in the living room.

Add a Steam controller (Doh!) for games that require mouse input, and you can couch-play all day! That's my favorite place to play.

Is this open source? I think the engine for Descent one and two is open sourced, and I'm wondering if they did the same for three.

So, what are the 12.5 million doing? Sifting through the morass trying to find a game to play? Or is it, if you have your Steam client open, you are a concurrent user?

Quoting: KimyrielleTo say I am not a fan of the F2P business model would be the understatement of the century, so I am not sure. I have yet to see a F2P game that's NOT designed to suck unless you cough up dough and keep coughing up dough. And if developers claim otherwise, it's usually...well...not quite true.

Otherwise it would look interesting.
I have found Path of Exile and Warframe don't suck very much.
