xrdesktop for turning your desktop into a VR space had a productive Summer

Quoting: Liam Dawe
Quoting: jrtSo tldr is that a Valve co-sponsored VR project has a better keyboard than SteamVR?
This isn't actually about SteamVR. xrdesktop is its own thing but you can use it to layer windows from your desktop on top of a SteamVR game, as an example. So for a livestreamer, they could use it to show Twitch chat and use the new keyboard implementation to interact with that layered window without touching a normal keyboard.
I know. But the SteamVR keyboard is so unreliable that it's likely it has a far better user experience.

Almost as good as their coming cpu naming scheme: 10nm -> Intel 7 -> Intel 4 -> Intel 3 -> Intel 20A (lower is better until higher is better again).
Not as bad as Nvidia with "Shield". I think they had 3 products named that and changed the name of the product to something else when they needed the name for a new Product.
"Nvidia Shield" -> "Nvidia Shield Portable"
"Nvidia Shield" -> "Nvidia Shield Tablet K1"
"Nvidia Shield" -> "Nvidia Shield Android TV"

Or the "Titan X" GPU. Where they had a second "Titan X" on a new architecture (pascal). So the community called it "Titan Xp" to differentiate, just for Nvidia to launch a new "Titan XP".

I was very positively surprised by the LTT video. He didn't mention "installing Windows" or the current anticheat situation.
I think it's great that we are at a point where people can be hyped about a Desktop Linux device without a constant "but it would be better with windows".

Proton 6.14 GE-2 and Wine 6.14 GE-2 are out, easily update Proton GE with ProtonUp

Quoting: rustybroomhandle
Quoting: jrtWhat do I need ProtonUP for? There is an AUR package that updates proton-ge with normal system updates and you could probably do the same with a deb/rpm repository. I don't like a separate tool to update individual components. I'm a strong believer in the benefits of package managers.
That's nice for you, but not everyone is on an arch-based system.
There is still the possibility to add a repository with normal packages. I dislike the idea of programs that ship their own updater or community made updaters. Package managers are made for this purpose and they do mostly a good job.
