Playtron plan to launch PlaytronOS, a Linux-based system for gaming

Unless they got some other technology that can achieve what Proton has done for Linux/Steam Deck gaming, I'm not convinced that they can get this off the ground. In a way, I feel that we're more likely to hear internal conflicts from those involved with Playtron and probably empty promises along the way.
Overall, I don't have a problem with them competing but nothing really stands out to me with what they're selling

Quoting: XpanderThis sounds more like some pitch to get some investors in rather than something already somewhere. Sound kinda more like a scam even...It feels like something that was slapped together to make it appear as though they can achieve the goal of making Linux play every single game through launchers and by other means and I'd be surprised if they can make certain games like COD, Destiny 2 and others work with kernel anti-cheats. Also, making x86/x86-64 games run on ARM will be another challenge onto itself considering that you'll need some transitional layer to make it work and color me surprised if they pull it off.
They also have some investors like Polychain on the website, which doesn't rise the trust factor at all.

Quoting: ElectricPrismValve has earned my respect. Nintendo and other inferior gaming companies have NOT. May my dollars going to Valve and good companies make them super jealous and go out of business like a free market should function.I feel the same way as you when it comes to supporting Valve and I hope they continue to do the good work of making games work great on Linux/Steam Deck.
Quoting: WORMWhere Sweeney is wrong is his thinking that all gamers want or need is a platform to buy, download, and update games from. I really wanted to see some competition in the space, but EGS's execution just plain doesn't cut it. There's not a single compelling reason to use it over Steam, but on the contrary lacks many features that Steam has accumulated over the years. I don't even like Steam particularly! If only GOG had the same amount of games that Steam has would there be good competition. Too bad they have a fraction of the Steam library of games but their DRM-free feature is pretty nice though

Quoting: TruckStopSantaClausWeird that Microsoft games have better Linux support than Roblox or Fortnight. If only they didn't use "cheating" as an excuse to allow Roblox and Fortnite to work on Linux/Steam Deck but it is what it is.

Quoting: SalvatosGood, good. I have my eye on this one, but I want to give it more time in the oven. Them paying attention to Steam Deck should ensure that it runs well on Linux in general as well :)I wished more game developers took the time to pay more attention to the Steam Deck because anything they do to make it work better is a plus in my book and may tempt me to buy their games from them over anything else.

Copped this bundle
Good thing that I only have one of the games listed already in my library but don't mind padding it some more. Thanks, Liam

Quoting: FreeFullYou're right. I got it confused with XeSS and somehow made the mistake of thinking of Xe drivers being the same thing.Quoting: ToddLNow, I do wonder if any of these kernel changes will make it into the Steam Deck because I'm curious to see if having the Xe drivers will make certain games that use it run better. The driver changes shouldn't be relevant to the Steam Deck, because the Xe driver is for Intel graphics, and the Steam Deck uses AMD graphics.

Quoting: vipor29i have a arc a750 laying around i might have to test that driver outI have seen some arc cards for cheap and I would like to know how your testing goes because if they're good enough for gaming, then I might consider getting one of these.

One thing to note about Scars Above is that you'll need to install the VC++ files from Protontricks if you're playing on the Steam Deck since the game will fail to launch without it.

I guess they took DraStic measures to make it free (and eventually, open source) so that Nintendo doesn't come after them and I never even heard of this emulator before
