Quoting: Cybolic"There are over 27 thousand abandonware games in world-wide circulation. That is more than half of Steam's current library"
Great, we're one sentence in and I already don't trust this video

You can't really fault them for trying with the math

GitLab takes down Nintendo Switch emulator suyu due to the DMCA

Quoting: ElectricPrismDear Nintendo:

SELL YOUR GAMES ON STEAM. PIRACY IS A SERVICE PROBLEM. STOP CUTTING OFF YOUR NOSE TO SPITE YOUR FACE FANS.

PEOPLE DON'T WANT TO BUY YOUR STUPID WALLED GARDEN HARDWARE.

That is all.
Great message but it'll get lost in translation since Nintendo only knows Nintendo speak and anything else goes way over their heads. Remember, they like to go cheap with the hardware and some of their fans think those 10-15 year old 3rd party games that every other system have gotten back then that they're getting now are great on that P.O.S hardware. Which is why when Switch 2 (or whatever stupid name they come up with) is released, they'll still be many generations behind just like their network service

I guess it's not too surprising that Nintendo was going to do this and I won't be shocked if someone reported the new repo that Suyu created because their fans just love to act like white knights to their gaming gods. At the end, it's better not to love their first party games if you don't love the things that Nintendo does to gaming like taking down emulators and fanmade games but it's understandably hard for many to do it.

Good thing I've rejected anything they've done for over a decade and counting and I'm glad that there are other games out there that interest me more than whatever they output.

I'll have to check it out because I tried playing Total War: Three Kingdoms on the Steam Deck and it was a horrible experience but maybe it might be better now.

Quoting: Linux_RocksCool, now where's our next-gen console patch motherfuckers? I'd literally pay like $10 USD to upgrade my RDR2 Xbone to Series via a patch.

Good luck getting Rockstar to provide any next-gen console patch for any of the their games. They would rather resell you the full game again with updated graphics over patching it and if the GTA Trilogy was any indication, they don't seem to want to put any effort of making something that could be good into something better.

I wonder if they'll ever put this version up on Steam in the future because I'm sure there will be enough people that want to buy this game for those that missed out on it before the delisting.

God of War now DRM-freed with a GOG release and discount

Quoting: juliandelphikiI'm curious: what is the best option for playing gog games on linux these days? I have quite a large library and would love to continue supporting gog for their DRM free stance, but once I switched from Windows to Fedora last year the fact that they don't offer a linux version of their launcher left a bad taste in my mouth and I just decided to expand my steam library instead. I'm assuming lutris or heroic games launcher are still the best? Can they really compete with the steam stability or is manual tweaking for each game still a common occurrence? Thanks for the info!
Since I game a lot on the Steam Deck, what I usually do is take the offline installer and add them as a Non-Steam game in Desktop Mode so that I can install the game into the internal SSD or microSD card. After that, just add the artwork and update the Target and Start In to point to the executable and game folder, respectively. This way, I have them appear as separate games in Gaming Mode. Of course, you can use Heroic Launcher if you like to keep them organized.

Playtron plan to launch PlaytronOS, a Linux-based system for gaming

Quoting: XpanderThis sounds more like some pitch to get some investors in rather than something already somewhere. Sound kinda more like a scam even...
They also have some investors like Polychain on the website, which doesn't rise the trust factor at all.
It feels like something that was slapped together to make it appear as though they can achieve the goal of making Linux play every single game through launchers and by other means and I'd be surprised if they can make certain games like COD, Destiny 2 and others work with kernel anti-cheats. Also, making x86/x86-64 games run on ARM will be another challenge onto itself considering that you'll need some transitional layer to make it work and color me surprised if they pull it off.

Unless they got some other technology that can achieve what Proton has done for Linux/Steam Deck gaming, I'm not convinced that they can get this off the ground. In a way, I feel that we're more likely to hear internal conflicts from those involved with Playtron and probably empty promises along the way.

Overall, I don't have a problem with them competing but nothing really stands out to me with what they're selling

Valve COO on Epic's Tim Sweeney "you mad bro?" when launching the Epic Store

Quoting: ElectricPrismValve has earned my respect. Nintendo and other inferior gaming companies have NOT. May my dollars going to Valve and good companies make them super jealous and go out of business like a free market should function.
I feel the same way as you when it comes to supporting Valve and I hope they continue to do the good work of making games work great on Linux/Steam Deck.

Quoting: WORMWhere Sweeney is wrong is his thinking that all gamers want or need is a platform to buy, download, and update games from. I really wanted to see some competition in the space, but EGS's execution just plain doesn't cut it. There's not a single compelling reason to use it over Steam, but on the contrary lacks many features that Steam has accumulated over the years. I don't even like Steam particularly!
If only GOG had the same amount of games that Steam has would there be good competition. Too bad they have a fraction of the Steam library of games but their DRM-free feature is pretty nice though

Quoting: TruckStopSantaClausWeird that Microsoft games have better Linux support than Roblox or Fortnight.
If only they didn't use "cheating" as an excuse to allow Roblox and Fortnite to work on Linux/Steam Deck but it is what it is.
