Humble Choice for March 2024 has Nioh 2, Saints Row, Citizen Sleeper
7 Mar 2024 at 3:40 am UTC

Quoting: KimyrielleTbh, this is the worst Choice month in a while. I might just as well pause it, too. At first I thought about getting it for AfterImage alone, but it seems to be insanely difficult, too. In other words, not for me.

At least I learned a new term. I had no idea what "masocore" is until I read the Nioh 2 Steam page...
Afterimage isn't insanely difficult as long as you have the right equipment and experience level like a lot of other similar Metroidvania game. Also, this one has multiple endings based on certain events that occur throughout the game. I thought it was a fun game but the sidekick is annoying though, lol

As for Nioh 2, if you played enough Soulslike game and understand the mechanics, then this one is right up but not at the level of any of the FromSoftware games. The thing about this game is that you collect a lot of loot from enemy drops and each one has different attributes that make them interesting if you match each piece of related armor. I already beat both Nioh 1 and 2 on the PS4 back then and they were fun games

Linux on the desktop breaks 4% for the first time on Statcounter

Quoting: LibreTEKHopefully people begin making the switch due to Microsoft's gamble on forcing an AI "copilot" into their desktop OS. Not that I'm against AI but my goodness, that's gonna (as I said before, hopefully make users jump ship.

But all in all, exciting news! Been using Linux for over 10 years now and never thought it'd get to where it's at today.
This is the dream to have more people move over to Linux and one day, we'll see the Year of the Linux Desktop/Gaming finally become a reality like we're supposed to believe back in the early 2000s

Yuzu agrees to pay Nintendo $2.4 million and will entirely shut down (Citra for 3DS too)

It sucks that Yuzu and Citra had to take the fall to Nintendon't but it's was bound to happen. Good thing I don't give a crap about Nintendon't first party games for the longest time and even if their Switch 2 is more powerful than PS4 Pro, I'll gladly take the Steam Deck and/or other Linux handheld PC over it any day of the week because they ain't getting any money from me for the crap they keep pulling year after year. Too many games to play outside of what Nintendon't make and sadly, too many people still fall for their nostalgic characters enough to keep the floating around for years to come.

Quoting: StoneColdSpiderI played the Nintendo 64 version of RE2 last week and REALLY liked it...... Thought it was really great....... Besides the annoying kid......

Ive started RE3: Nemesis and im not liking it that much at all..... I can tell its been rushed and the writing is very sub par so far.......

I will get to Code Veronica X on the GameCube one day.......
I know what you mean by the annoying kid but at least it wasn't too bad in the Remake version since it was more tolerable and some of the kids part weren't too long to overstay its welcome :)

I only finished RE3 once on the PS1 and it was pretty forgettable since I couldn't even remember much of what was going on at the time. I also played the Remake version of it as well but it didn't change my opinion much about the game, sadly.

As for Code Veronica, you could emulate the Dreamcast version of the game, which is the original one before it came over to the PS2 and Gamecube later on.

Quoting: StoneColdSpiderAs for me..... Through the power of emulation...... Ive been playing through the Resident Evil games for the first time ever...... Ive been going into the games almost completely blind besides knowing small things thanks to well known memes...... Jill Sandwich...... And I have been really enjoying the first two games so far...... Im going to start Resident Evil 3 Nemesis soon......
I like Resident Evil 2 a lot, especially when it was first released on PS1 back in 1998. I loved the way they designed the game where you can start with either characters and eventually, their stories converge at the end. I also played the remake version and I like it just as much as the original because it's setup the same way but with additional parts that wouldn't have been possible back then.

Another good one I like is Resident Evil Code Veronica since it's just like the ones you're playing right now and at first, I didn't like it when I played that on the PS2 but after revisiting it again years later, it started to grow on me to the point that I enjoyed it.

Nintendo goes after Switch emulator yuzu in new lawsuit
29 Feb 2024 at 3:27 am UTC

Quoting: elmapulif only we had an publisher that made alternative games to nintendo games, capable of outputing the same ammount of games as then, with games that are different enough to no count as plagiarism, but similliar enough to compete for the same audience while at the same time, they could make better games than nintendo, as well as make high quality original games instead of just imitations, if we had all of this with an company that was actually ethical...
nintendo would be forced to improve.

meanwhile, we have things like this...
Sega would've been the closest one to this but with the mismanagement that they had to dealt with at the time and the fact that they are a third party publisher is such a shame because they had some really good IPs.

Nintendo goes after Switch emulator yuzu in new lawsuit

Quoting: GuestThis is why I never have and never will buy anything from Nintendo. Japanese litigious approaches are downright repulsive.
I'm glad I don't care for their games anymore for over past two decades and yuzu doesn't scratch my itch to play anything they make on the Switch. Besides, I'm happy with the Steam Deck because I can play a lot of non-Nintendo games they get but better and I actually buy the games I want to play at better prices versus the eShop. At least I know I can continue to access them on a PC or elsewhere without having it get stuck on the Steam Deck if it ever dies or I sell it for whatever reason (not that I would) versus having the game get stuck on a Switch with no guarantee if the newer systems they make in the future will play them.

Quoting: neon_soaked_chryssalidHmm, Nintendo being Nintendo again. Somehow nobody that I know IRL can understand why I will not purchase any products from them.
Don't worry, it's better if they don't know than to know. At least the people I know IRL understand and somewhat agree with me why I don't like Nintendo.

Slimbook reveal the AMD powered Excalibur laptop and KDE Plasma 6 Slimbook
22 Feb 2024 at 11:49 pm UTC

Quoting: Purple Library GuyI like the slim aluminum schtick, I like that it's got AMD graphics . . . it seems pretty nice. But I'm in Canada, so.
I was interested in the laptop and taking a look at it from their store. Since you'll have to add a power adapter for use in the US (and probably Canada) for about $19CAD, if you stick to the basic model that gives you 16GB of non-soldered RAM and 250GB NVME PCI-e 4.0 SSD, it'll end up costing you over $1500CAD (shipping was added to the price of the laptop itself, which is about $1475CAD). However, since I live in the US, it would cost about $1100 + $50 shipping + sales tax and that would push it past $1200.

Overall, it looks likes a good laptop to get since it's nice to see an AMD powered one over the usual Intel/Nvidia combo you see pretty often.

Steam users redeemed over $80 million in physical wallet cards in December 2023

I can say that I'm one of those $80 million physical Steam Wallet card purchasers and I wouldn't be surprised if some of that is attributed to those that can't buy a Steam Deck using credit card, Paypal or other means.

It's nice that you can buy something like a Steam Deck with Steam Wallet digital and physical cards

Quoting: DrNickSounds like my Steam Deck is gonna have an easier time running some games.
I can't wait to see these changes get added to the Linux kernel and SteamOS because if these numbers are any indication, it sounds like we're in for some awesome gaming experiences on the Steam Deck
