Quoting: LinasAnd I am sure that is why Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL) exists. Not because they actually want their users to use Linux, but because they know that they lost to Linux in the server market, and cannot pull off a compelling Windows-proper alternative.
I'm quite sure that WSL only exists in order to keep Linux Server developers and Administrators using the Windows desktop, and not loosing them to a Linux desktop like they lost on the server side.
I don't think so. It's to make it easier to manage Linux services that run on Azure. Now, admins and developers don't have to run a VM. I don't think MS was "losing" anybody to Linux that is now satisfied with WSL.
I've basically been forced to use WSL1 for the past few months, and it's horrible. Even doing things like a simple 'apt update' take forever compared to a real Linux system (VM or otherwise). WSL2, they gave up on it being a kernel supported subsystem, and is instead just a virtual machine using Hyper-V extensions. Which by the requirements I'm currently restricted to is not okay either (and it's basically a VM that won't give you any X applications...)

So WSL is probably really only meant as a way to get a more native version of bash /ssh, etc. doing anything beyond just that is rather painful.
Thankfully, I do not have to use WSL. I tried it a year or two ago and was fed up with it really fast. Running a VM on my desktop is a bit annoying, but it's overall way better to me.

Crusader Kings III launches for Linux on September 1

I think in order to really get great fun and value out of this game, I'll have to commit to playing only it for a while once I get it. Remove distractions of the rest of my game library.

Deep Rock Galactic leaves Early Access, works well with Steam Play on Linux

Deep Rock is a lot more fun than I anticipated. I was worried that the randomly generated levels would feel too similar and boring. But they are really cool! The variety of difficulty is an excellent mechanic as well. You can start the night on easy to get warmed up and then crank it up once you feel cocky. My friends and I haven't played it for maybe 2 weeks now, but I put in 40 hours before we wanted to try something else. Worth it to me! I also joined a Twitch streamer once, which was fun.

I saw this demo video a few days ago. I'm impressed! I don't say this very often, but the lighting at the beginning looked awesome! I'm looking forward to a PS5 now.

Seriously charming programming puzzler KnotBot is out now

I'd love if this game was on GOG or Itch, but it's cheap enough that I can probably live with it being chained to Steam. What's annoying with Steam? Well, if I buy the game, I can share the game via Steam with the kids, but while they're playing the game, I can't play ANY of my other Steam games.

I like the pop culture jokes myself. I love this game.

I know there are a lot of Microsoft haters in the Linux world. I really don't like running Windows myself, either. However, I actually have a positive attitude about their acquisition of npm. It is super popular and needs some... stability and security expertise to take control.

Could start with BatMUD. Quite friendly, I think.

+1 to this. I don't have much MUD experience, but I have played BatMUD and I thought it was quite fun (within the context of text-based games of course).

What hurt my experience was playing between my laptop and desktop. I couldn't get my fonts to look good on my desktop but they looked good on the laptop. When the game is all text, it was too annoying for me to ignore. This article makes me want to give it another go.

EDIT: I should mention I used the actual BatMUD client. I like that theirs shows your stats all the time out of the box.

EDIT 2: Oh, I didn't know that their client wasn't free anymore. Oh well. It's cheap.
