Here's some of what we've learned about the Steam Deck

Besides, wouldn't it just be easier collect the "does it start?" data from Steam users? Send a lot faster and easier.

I'm sure Steam actively monitors quite a bit of our systems. I know it monitors our game directories (if, say you manually add a mod to a game, it won't let you play it until you upload a copy of it to them or remove it), and it does something with the network (I get a sudo request from Network Manager every time I open Steam - NM is superuser only on my laptop). Even in "offline mode" it reaches out over the network.

We know it tracks whether the game is running, play time, etc. I wouldn't be surprised if it tracks some other info to send to Valve.

Quoting: whizsePeople used to port Doom to every inconceivable piece of hardware.

I guess people ran out of hardware and now try to implement every inconceivable game genre in Doom?

This is literally like the most polite DE war I've ever seen, lol.

If it has a Start menu I can type in, does Windows, and has system tray/notification area, I'm pretty happy.

Now, if you want to really impress me, implement a fully functional "Control Panel" / settings page / control center thing. Most DE's are a little limited to thier own settings. Closest thing I've seen is YAST, although I'm sure there are others.

It's the wild west out there as EVGA confirm GeForce RTX 30-Series GPUs stolen from truck

Heh, I remember when the Nintendo Wii came out. I worked logistics at a retailer. Literally had to escort those off the trailer with security, because people would take them off the line and hide them in the shelves in the back.

What made it weird was that it kinda wasn't exactly clear cut theft...On break, the workers would then bring the Wii's to the store front and purchase them. Some did it for themselves, for friends, and others would put that stuff online and scalp em.

So the store got the sale. Nothing stolen, but the customer never had a chance to buy it, which was crappy.

I wonder if the thieves even knew what they were getting at first. Most containers and trailers aren't very descriptive of the contents.

I could totally see some thieves getting into this while it was sitting at a drop lot. Got super lucky.

Toss anything with retail packaging in the bed of a truck, drive off, and sell on social media.

Microsoft Edge available officially for Linux today as a stable browser
2 Nov 2021 at 11:29 pm UTC

I use Edge at work for our intranet. It requires credentials to view pages and Edge can access the Windows "keyring" (don't know the Windows term) for my login. Saves me from having to login endlessly.

That said, if it's a chrome clone, like opera, I don't really have a use for it on Linux. Firefox and Chromium are just fine for me.

Ironically, our IT people tell us to use Firefox or Chrome at work when going onto the internet. They are an older bunch, so they might have IE PTSD.

This is such a good game. Feels like a legit tabletop strategy game, depth and all.

Probably also why it can be so challenging. I'm also a horrible table to player, so that could be it too.
