For Troy it's kind of understandable since the game was free a year ago and perfectly playable on Linux already. I'd still be hopeful that Feral would use the tech that they invested in for more ports. It definitely would make a difference for me. But the bigger problem I see is that the business model of Feral is not actually leading to much business (besides Creative Assembly) any more. And this applies as much to the Mac side of things. I wouldn't be surprised if the went completely mobile/Switch. I wish them the best though! I've enjoyed many of their ports and quite a few of them have been the highest price I've paid for single games.

You might see that as a negative, but for me that was a device seller. It means that the device is sufficiently open to do with as you please. As a Linux user that part should sound appealing. And if the cost of that is that some people will actually install windows on it, then so be it.

Honestly, I don't think it's going to be quite that easy. If I take a look at how the "system" behaves in the videos, then it looks like they have customised the Steam client a lot and possibly integrated it with the window manager/compositor for added control. This stuff is not likely to work outside of SteamOS3 (or a system running its components), so running Windows is very likely to be a much worse experience.

It's mentioned on the Steam Deck site that it will be sold separately. In the videos they say that you can also use a generic USB-C dock. No overclocking mentioned, but higher resolutions should be possible as the dock can connect to any external display via DP or HDMI.

I'm in because it is at least an open device that I can do with what I want even if Valve's plans don't quite pan out. The biggest selling point for this device is probably that every Steam user already has a large library of games that they can use on it.

Don't think Apex Legends will happen though. Trying to get EA to have its monstrosity anti-cheat supported on Proton doesn't seem very likely.

I would have liked a 1080p screen, but I suppose that would require more GPU power and battery content as well, so maybe a good compromise.

And with a full os included, it's hard to pass up.
