Linux Foundation launches the Open 3D Engine based upon Amazon Lumberyard

Quoting: PhiladelphusI don't recall ever hearing of the Amazon Lumberyard engine before. What kinds of games has it been used to create?
The only one I know of is Crucible [External Link], which didn't turn out too well.

There is also Star Citizen which started out on CryEngine but "switched" to Lumberyard at some point for reasons that I don't remember. However, since SC basically forked it as well, this should now be considered a third cryengine fork.

Astro Colony is an upcoming space sci-fi exploration and automation game

I always love my exploration and automation games. And they seem to have quite a lot done already, which is nice for a kickstarter. Will the Demo support Linux as well? (as this would demonstrate that Linux support won't be something they plan to do afterwards)

SteamVR 1.18 is out supporting async-reprojection with NVIDIA on Linux

Quoting: KROMThat might help with that jitter problem until it is fixed:
Issue on github [External Link]
That's basically getting rid of async reprojection entirely. I'd say having it enabled is more of a benefit to the game than it is a problem for the overlay.

Tried scaine's vr.py script again this weekend, but it's not working. It's basically failing on the bluetooth stuff, specifically on the "le on". It looks like the bluetooth stuff isn't working at all.

Linux Foundation launches the Open 3D Engine based upon Amazon Lumberyard

Not the worst engine to have in open source form. Seeing what Star Citizen made out of it, there must be a quite capable base to work from. The irony is of course that they are way behind SC now. They have their Vulkan renderer feature complete and it is estimated that it may completely replace the DX one fairly soon (SC soon, which is worse than SoonTM ). And in the SC tech updates, Linux is still occasionally mentioned as a build target for the engine. All the time that took also shows that it's not the easiest piece of code to work with.

So, let's see where this goes!

NVIDIA 470.42.01 for Linux adds DLSS for Proton, Xwayland, asynchronous reprojection

Quoting: EhvisTried a bit of VR today with SteamVR beta and the 470 driver. Async reprojection definitely works and is mostly positive. However, I'm now greeted with "Error -203" very quickly. I didn't even manage to start Talos before I got the error. Just messing around in SteamVR Home gave me the longest time before things bombed out with -203, about 20 minutes. Not sure if it's SteamVR beta, the 470 driver, or the combination of the two.
Ok this worries me, as it's primarily for VR I am excited about this driver.

I guess I'll wait for it to go out of beta. Thanks for the status report!
After the 1 July SteamVR update things seemed much more stable. Didn't crash out in about 5 hours of play time after that. Did have something where the actual rendered fps was much lower that it should be. As if the async reprojection was not async. But the next day I went through all my settings again and changed everything to something reasonable and after that it was fine. Now I have reprojection smoothness without my hands looking stuttery, so now it is definitely an improvement. I would highly recommend trying it.

I'm hoping that at some point there will be an option to get rid of the black and white.

NVIDIA puts out a new release of their open source NVAPI interface

Quoting: rustybroomhandleWhile it's nice of them to make this stuff open source, it's probably not tech that anyone should be using, since it's hardware specific and serves as a vector to lock-in.
Maybe, but it's already used on Windows, so it's definitely something good for Wine. Even implementing the functionality separately would be a possibility (although not necessarily useful). And then make it run on AMD would at least be hilarious.

The SteamOS-like Linux distribution GamerOS becomes ChimeraOS with a new release
2 Jul 2021 at 10:27 am UTC Likes: 2

Quoting: DerpFoxI understand GamerOS is not perfect, but the new one doesn't make any sense at all.
Well, "Gamer" sounds kind of similar to "Chimer(a)" without people immediately noticing it.

Quoting: scaineI love these round-ups. I'm sitting here thinking - where the hell did June go? Then you post this, and it's such an eye opener. Makes you realise that June was quite packed after all, thankyouverymuch!
Forget about June. It's July! Where the hell did the first half of the year go?
