The Wandering Village is a clear hit with over 50K copies sold

Oh, wow, I never realized there was a button to hide the UI! That's great for screenshots.

I saw that announcement, and it's great to see that it's been so popular. Hopefully that means they'll have plenty of time and support to work on the things in the roadmap and add new features. I wouldn't mind a little more crop variety, right it's pretty much "beets in mountains" → "corn and cactus in deserts" → "corn (and tomatoes? I haven't unlocked them yet) in jungle", plus wheat on the side. The way plants grow differently (or die) at different temperatures would pretty easily allow a few more crops in there that could still be functionally distinct from each other.

Rebel Galaxy Outlaw and some reflection on Steam Reviews

For me, Steam reviews have been something close to gospel.
Interesting. For me, I barely pay attention to them. That's not to say I pay no attention to them, but I generally put a lot more stock in going and looking up footage of a game I'm potentially interested in, and I generally only check for a negative rating if I'm already feeling turned off by a game. Five minutes of watching someone play can say a lot more about whether I'll personally enjoy a game than a few dozen poorly-spelled one-sentence reviews from people I don't know. I have found individual longer reviews (both positive and negative) helpful in the past, but there are plenty of games I've bought where I didn't bother reading any reviews beforehand, based on information I got about them elsewhere.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyCBD? Isn't that some kind of cannabis thing?
Quoting: denyasisCentral Business District, I presume. That's what some places refer to as their downtowns.
Yeah, I first heard the acronym during the four years I spent in Melbourne from 2017-2021*. Then I moved back the US and started hearing people talking about "CBD oil" and I was like "Huh? You need special oil for your downtown?"

*The Melbourne CBD [External Link] is a very defined (mostly) square bit at the heart of the city with a number of pedestrian-only or low-traffic roads. Also the home of the dreaded Tram Hook Turn [External Link] where you have to start a right turn by first moving left.

Pedestrian-only roads? Hmm, I could try replicating the Melbourne CBD now…

The Wandering Village is absolutely mesmerizing

Tried the demo whenever that was was (early this year?) and loved it, going to pick it up now that it's out.

Quoting: denyasisOn the spectrum of say Stardew Valley to RimWorld, one being more about managing relationships and the later being more into the simulation side of a whole colony, where would you put The Wandering Village?

Mostly asking as my partner prefers the former (Stardew valley, spirit Farer, etc). I get the impression it's more colony management for the village with managing a relationship with Onbu or am I off mark?
Definitely more like RimWorld, though it doesn't have the same depth of people simulation. Your villagers are pretty fungible, able to swap jobs instantly without building up skill in a particular area. (At least, it was like that in the demo, though from a little footage I've seen I don't think they've suddenly added a per-unit skill system.) The relationship with Onbu can be fairly touching, but you're not going to be having Stardew Valle-style conversations or anything (it doesn't talk, after all). It's quite a fun little game, it's just not as deep as various other similar games.

Valve dev shows more Steam Deck prototypes

Personally I prefer the look of the one we got, but I love seeing all these prototypes to see how we got there.

It's interesting to see that the Steam and Ellipsis buttons were once raised, given their current form is one of the few complaints I've seen about the Deck.

The graphics immediately remind me of Into The Breach, as does the description of it as turn-based and seemingly a sort of "puzzle" game. Would that be an apt comparison?

I hate to admit it but I like Disney Dreamlight Valley — works well on Steam Deck / Linux

It's also currently a paid game but once it leaves Early Access it will be free to play.
Huh, that's an unusual model. I guess it's the on the principle of "make sure you get only the really dedicated people to help beta test in Early Access".

Pretty funny premise. I don't generally play a lot of FPS games (or first-person in general, really), but this does look fun.

Quite enjoyed the demo, so I'm looking forward to this. The demo felt pretty good, just like it could use some polishing (and some sort of end goal), so hopefully they've implemented that in the interim.
