Steam Deck got a few Beta updates recently so here's what's new

Generally, I find the estimate of ~2–6 hours is pretty good. A 3D game, especially with more photorealistic graphics, tends to drop it down, and a 2D game without fancy graphics tends to be higher. I haven't gotten too deep into power usage optimization, though.

Quoting: EhvisI need to give this game another try. It's fairly complicated, so I'll probably have to start at the tutorial again. Seems to be a very common reason for me why I don't get further in certain games.
Yeah, I tried the demo maybe a year or two ago. Definitely a huge amount of stuff going on in the game, and this sounds like it's only gotten bigger.

Cool to see it expand, but wow, RIP Australia. I still feel a bit guilty since I reserved my Deck while living there last year when the announcement came out, since I'd never gotten around to changing my Steam region from North America.

Well, I've boosted Stray on that list. I did play Aperture Desk Job as the first thing when I got my Deck a month ago, but I probably won't touch it again for a while since it's basically one-and-done.

I really wish Stardew Valley had a cloud-sync option for saves, because I'd rather work on my original farm than start over, but manually syncing save files between my PC and the Deck is more work that I feel like putting in (plus I've got dozens of mods that'd have to be transferred as well).

Tried it out a bit, definitely an interesting concept. I can't figure out the jetpack movement, though. Sometimes when I press the button it rockets me up, sometimes I'm barely hovering. And it's more like a jump-jet than a jetpack, you have to use it right as you're jumping or it doesn't seem to work; you also can't thrust → release button and fall down a bit → thrust again. Maybe with some more experience I'll figure it out, but it was a bit of a frustrating experience.

Quoting: ValckAnother part of the equation may be that usually software comes with a complete and fairly decent English localization, if it wasn't translated from there to begin with.
Is that true, though? I remember Debian making an effort to translate its texts into proper English, as large parts had been written by non-native speakers... Opinions from native speakers on this?
Well, I'm a native English speaker* and I've been using Debian since 2016, and I can't say I've ever run across any text that struck me as odd, so…I guess it worked?

*And a bit of a pedant when it comes to grammar.

OK, that's pretty funny, though I hope you get better translations in the future!

Something not mentioned in the article, it apparently has on-line co-op, which definitely makes it a bit more attractive to me. I've downloaded the demo on my Deck to try it out. I like the idea of explosive gel, that's an interesting twist.

Added favorite and popular guides to the Steam Overlay for easy access
Sweet! Sometimes it's nice to be able to have a guide open and switch back and forth to it, and now I can do it on my Deck.

I remember coming across this years ago (though after the Kickstarter, and possibly post-dev burnout), and I still remember being inspired by one of the descriptions about why it was being made, which to paraphrase went something like "Procedural generation has a bad reputation because it often gives boring results. But that's not a limitation of procedural generation itself, it just means we need to develop better algorithms for it." (In the same way that early 3D games often looked bad, not because 3D was inherently bad, but because the tech hadn't matured yet.) While proc gen is obviously not something for every game (just as amazing 2D games continue to be made, there'll always be a need for hand-made content), I think in the intervening years we've started to see some of those "better algorithms" come about, making for some really interesting and fun games where proc gen gets used (I've spent hundreds of hours in Noita, for instance). Glad to see the code get open-sourced and excited to see what comes about from it.

Huh, weird, I haven't had a single crash in ~1.75 hours playing on the Deck (in "game mode"). Odd that there'd be that difference between two Decks.
