AYANEO to have their own AYANEO OS based on Linux

Quoting: WildCoderI'm torn. I wish they'd work with Valve to improve Steam OS rather that go their own way. But on the other end it might be easier to bring non steam games to this device, maybe something Valve can bring onto steam OS later on.
Anyway I would rather see more cooperation at the OS level...
This will contain the whole Valve Stack. They will not redo the changes to the Linux kernel, nor to Mesa or the Radion drivers. Not to speak of core libraries like DXVK. Nobody invents the wheel twice. I think they will even use Gamescope, Mango-HUD and the other open source components from Valve's environment. And for any Linux system, Steam is the first port of call. That's even true for ChromeOS.

This development will make Linux a major player in PC gaming in the long run. Valve could not do that alone. But they have set the ball rolling. I'm pretty sure they're happy about the development at Valve. The ratio in production between Nintendo and Valve is 10:1, but I see the demand for customised Linux gaming handhelds at the same level as the Switch.

Valve will benefit massively from this development because of Steam.

Epic Online Services gets free cross-play tooling that will support Linux

I hate the persistent questions in Rocket League (Steam) to export my friends list.

Epic stands for the diablosation (derived from Blizzard's Diablo) of the gaming sector. Formerly good games are adapted to this. If you just give people the games for free, it's clear where the money has to come from. From people who fall for such money grabs. It rarely makes the games better, even if you don't pay.

Normal games are now only giveaways and are devalued.

Sorry, probably a stupid question:
Why do the videos from Soul Calubur VI work on the Steam Deck but not on my normal Linux/Steam PC?

Gamers Nexus have a fascinating look at the Steam Deck fan situation

Quoting: 1xokAt some point you hear the noise, even when the fan is off.
Wouldn't that lead to the conclusion it was not actually the fan that was causing that noise, but something other such as coil whine?
That was a bit of an ironic exaggeration. Of course, when the fan is off, the high-pitched whistling is gone.

If anyone is interested, here's my experience with two different fans in the Steam Deck:

I had to send my Deck back because the left trigger was grinding against the housing. In addition, the fan had a nasty high-pitched sound. To be clear, I would not have sent the device back only because of this, because I know that it is a series problem. And the fan didn't sound defective like Liam's either. No, it was just one of those annoying mini-fans like you get for the Raspi.

But now, luck of the draw: my replacement device doesn't have that nasty whistling sound. The fan is maybe not a bit quieter, but much more pleasant. I don't know if Valve has changed over completely in the meantime, but now that I have the comparison, I realise how annoying it actually was. The fan in my old device was always present. At some point you hear the noise, even when the fan is off. With the new device, I don't even think about the fan anymore. My brain completely blocks out the normal fan noise after a short while. I even reset the Deck to the old fan curve.

EDIT: The difference I heard is not actually explained in the video. Neither of the two fans sounds really bad either. For me, it was a high-pitched noise that I could hear without any problems even at a distance of 8 metres. I didn't hear any of the normal fan noise at this distance, but I did hear this high-pitched noise. I don't know which fan I had. There may also be deviations in the series.

Has anyone played it on the deck and have any recommendations? I will try. Had started on the laptop. It went very well. But even the laptop is too cumbersome when lying in bed.

SteamOS 3.2 out for Steam Deck — better fan curves, refresh rate switching
29 May 2022 at 12:22 pm UTC

Quoting: slaapliedjeLet's be honest here... SteamOS for generic hardware DOES NOT MATTER.
I think for PC handhelds, the user interface of SteamOS is currently by far the most comfortable. And exactly what end users expect. Whether things like suspend/resume work on any hardware, I have my doubts. But other manufacturers are currently moving in the direction of Zen/RDNA2.

Valve itself has communicated the plan to open SteamOS especially for comparable devices. Valve earns its money with software and especially with Steam. It is important for them that people use Steam. And SteamOS takes care of that. Openness or not: Most people stay in the bed they fell into.

So I'm pretty sure SteamOS will still be released separately from Steam Deck. Valve wants to create a standard for PC handhelds. A standard that is synonymous with Steam.
