Was thinking this would be good for a backup server as it has a 2.5" sata bay, and have plenty of processing power left for a home-assistant server (and/or software router).

So, in ignorance, we watched it. And it was an awesome experience.
I totally support your point!

Quoting: jarhead_hYou know, before The Matrix hit theaters I had been in boot camp, and when I was in school of infantry it came to the base theater and I had absolutely no idea what the hell it was about. I just wanted to go to the movies. Simply put if you went into that film any other way than absolutely blind you missed out because you had some idea of what it might be about. You had things already spoiled by someone, etc.We just finished our Matric (final year 12) exams, and went to the local cinema (only had 2 movies running) and this thing called "The Matrix" was showing, it looked better than the other.
I bring it up because as soon as I saw the first trailer for Selaco I stopped watching any more trailers. I don't want to play the demo, I want to go into it completely clueless and then be blown away just like that night at the movies.

Quoting: Purple Library GuyWhat about something like the StarLite [External Link] ?Quoting: PenglingMy wife manages OK with a Chromebook most of the time because her computing needs are very modest. But when she wants to do something it doesn't want to do, she's basically hooped. If MacOS is a "walled garden", ChromeOS is a "walled planter"!Quoting: Purple Library GuyIt's nice that they're putting out powerful Linux laptops.RIP netbooks. Something along those lines would make a great (and, for my purposes, much more useful) alternative to Chromebooks in this day and age!
But, could somebody maybe do a wimpy Linux laptop? That's more what I'm in the market for.

I agree with the weird complete lack of AMD dgpu's offered by linux notebook vendors.
The Ryzen cpu's also perform notably better unplugged than the Intel ones, but on the counterside, the Intel CPU's tend to have fewer powermanagement bugs and coreboot is also much better supported. So I', not really too concerned about that.
But I keep on remembering the abysmal experience with an Nvidia GPU on linux as the device gets older...
My kids are still using an old Sandy-bridge notebook with a Radeon 7730M (unmuxed dual gpu) and it works great. At least that old device is still useful, whereas my Ivy-bridge era notebook with its Nvidia gpu stopped being usable half a decade ago. Seems such a waste.

I see more potential gains in frame interpolation on mobile games, as if you can halve the power requirements, you halve the heat. And in such a small device every little bit helps. Touch screens are already terrible with latency, so I don't think this degradation will be noticeable.
If the frame interpolation can do some kind of async reprojection like with VR games, but for non-VR games, it will really help a lot, even at lower framerates. It doesn't sound like they are doing that, as they talk about about preferring 60 fps. Probably they are doing something closer to what TV's have been doing for the last decade (and that looks very weird to me).
Still, FSR has been quite a leap in performance on lower end systems already, here's to hoping there's more to come

I think a discussion about things that happened "long ago" will just bring out the old people like me and we just can't resist talking of the "good old days".
Although not necessarily good, I think we were just less old and had more free time.
Or maybe we expected less from our computers.
I mean it was the era of having turbo buttons that slows down your PC, or just hard-resetting your PC multiple times a day because it randomly hung again.
Or opening up your crappy old VGA monitor that was getting too dark, so you could up the voltage on the tube so you could actually SEE stuff again. And then being surprised that the monitor caught on fire a month later...
