...their final blog post...
...and they'll be showing off Zink...
Isn't it his own blog, or are there several people writing it?

AMD Radeon RX 6600 launches today aimed at high-refresh rates and 1080p

Quoting: Zlopez
Quoting: CFWhitmanI never expected to be stuck so long on my Vega 56. However, until I start seeing new cards for MSRP or less, that's going to be my card. I expect that eventually either the demand will lessen or chip production will catch up or the world will end. We'll see.
I'm still stuck on my RX 590 and I still fear that the GPU fan will die one day, because I hear some clicking coming from it for a few months.

But in past years I usually didn't play new games and I don't need 4k or ultra high details. If the game runs and it's fun, it's enough for me. So I will wait till the price will come down or the market situation will changes in other way.
I'm still running my old R9 290...

The cheapest variant in Sweden cost $482, but it ran out today. The second cheapest (that is still in stock) can be found around $520.

Happy Birthday to Linux, 30 years strong

The desktop share is different depending on where you look with StatCounter giving it 2.38% while NetMarketShare put it at 1.79% - both higher if you decide to include ChromeOS which is Linux-based.
I don't understand, why would you not count ChromeOS as just another distribution?

Half-Life 2: Remastered Collection coming from the team behind Half-Life 2: Update

For people who are still somehow yet to play through Half-Life 2 and the episodes, perhaps this Half-Life 2: Remastered Collection might end up being the best way.
I haven't. I loved the first one to bits, but I never got very far in the second one. I gave it a shot a couple of times, but I just couldn't get into a groove with it.
A bit the same for me. I never played the first one (only the original TF mod) and then got the second one for my PS3, years later, and I've never liked playing FPS games with a controller, so I played an hour or so, didn't quite get into if, an I kind of never continued.

I have been meaning to play the remastered editions of both of them though. It is probably worth it, instead of playing the originals. It tends to bug me if the graphics is too far off, in a game like that.

Imperator: Rome from Paradox is put on hold to focus on other projects

It's interesting to see what a complete failure Johan's project has been from the start to the end.
He wanted to "do things the old way and just make a game!" instead of working according to scrum (or at least something vaguely resembling it) and the other more "organized" ways that all PDS's projects are currently being developed using.
The result is a game with horrifying reviews, way over budget, huge stability issues and lacking design.
He then goes on to head the new studio in Spain, which in turn releases the add on with the worst review on Steam ever. At least according to a recent press release.
Great job! I must say it is quite a feat.

The Machinery game engine adds Linux support in Preview

This is amazing, the fact that they build their entire engine in less than one minute is a big WOW. Sure, it's not a huge engine yet, but they've been working on it for a couple of years (since 2016-2017 I think), so I think it is probably quite feature packed.

Niclas (their main lead tech) has been writing blog posts and outlined how they code at OurMachinery, and they've chosen to leave C++ behind and focus on a pure C-codebase, mainly for speed, simplicity and compilation time reasons. If I remember correctly, he commented on the fact that he felt that C++ was becoming so complicated and complex that you spent more time understanding the language and the features than actually coding on stuff, and that the resulting code was getting higher and higher thresholds to get into.

I can recommend their coding standard document, as well as their other blog posts:

Unreal Engine 4.26 rolls out with lots of Linux improvements, drops OpenGL for Vulkan

I asked Epic's developer Niklas Smedberg at GDC (perhaps in 2015?) during the Vulkan/Khronos Q&A when they thought Vulkan would have replaced OpenGL in their products. They where unsure of it at the time (Vulkan was just gaining traction, but it was obvious that Khronos was surprised at the speed that the traction had been gained at that time), but nice to see that that day has finally come!

Re-live the experience of Half-Life with Black Mesa: Definitive Edition out now

I will take a run at playing it, when I find the time amidst the chaos that is life. I actually never played the original, even though I was the "perfect age" for it when it came out. I was stuck in Quake 1, and didn't play any Half Life-based stuff until we moved over to Team Fortress from Quake 1 to the Half Life-engine one.
