Quoting: kuhpunktAnd here I thought the joke couldn't be more obvious

Really, sarcasm and irony is unusable on the internet. There's just too many who'd seriously mean what's said as a joke - regardless of what's being said :D
That's why there have been sarcasm marks since the dawn of networked text communication: http://www.jargon.net/jargonfile/e/emoticon.html [External Link]

(Maybe not the best example, I remember another jargon file asking to put a smiley or other sarcasm indicator like /s after sarcasm). Edit: more specifically, the argument was: a lot of people read these messages. Even if 100 people understand the joke, the 101th might not, and reply with an annoyed answer.

Quoting: wolfyrionWhat is the status of VR in Linux? (plug and play?)

Shall I buy Valve Index VR Kit or wait for something newer from Valve?
Performance depends on your GPU and drivers a lot. Not sure async reprojection is supported everywhere.

I was able to play some on my R9 Fury, it was mostly smooth, if a bit laggy at times, and log load times. Didn't play anything serious though.

Quoting: finaldestInteresting, I should grab this game however, Can this game be played on the go with friends?

Forgive me for sounding stupid here as I don't normally play multiplayer games or co op games, But how does co-op play work on the steam deck if outside with friends?. Do the deck units link via WI-fi? or are we talking about traditional online play only?

I only ask this as I see co-op as a experience when you are actually with your friends and not online. Valve should implement such a feature to allow at least 4 steam deck users to link their decks to play co-op. If not possible then maybe they could implement this feature in a hardware attachment such as a hub unit.
Ah, interesting bit for the WLAN. It would be nice to have a builtin option, although one can use a phone access point or domestic wi-fi, or even a deck as an access point (requires some config).

Otherwise, just connect multiple controllers (like a pair of joy-con over bluetooth). And maybe hook up the deck to a TV for a larger screen. That's what couch co-op is about.

I've seen that game before, it seemed a bit bland compared to overcook, but hopefully it continues improving! Overcook works nicely too, although it took some fidling with Proton versions, and the Steam Xinput API can be buggy at times.

Valve dev understandably not happy about glibc breaking Easy Anti-Cheat on Linux

LSB was a good idea. We need more automated testing to catch that kind of bugs. FULLY cover important APIs.

If an application requires qn older "base" or an older libraries, shims should be provided, and that should be exercised with tests.

Of course, that requires a substantial ammount of effort :/

Oh wow multiversus looks great... and that Steven Universe theme remix during the fight too, lol.

I have a friend who will not play anything else than Super Smash, which is a game I don't really like. That, plus I don't have Nintendo devices, nor am I into their ecosystem or games. I'll have to check this out!

It's probably a good idea to use a breakaway cable as well :)

Steam adds support for Nintendo Joy-Con controllers in Beta
5 Aug 2022 at 11:11 pm UTC

It's a bit buggy for now. It worked with 1 joycon out of two, but the "nintendo button order" toggle didn't work, and it got confused when I tried to remap buttons, thinking it was an Xbox one controller suddently, inverting the y-axis.

On top of that, I still have issues with xinput emulation and at least the steam controller.

Apparently, the new nintendo kernel module might conflict with steam? https://github.com/ValveSoftware/steam-for-linux/issues/6651 [External Link]

I quite like the paradox approach, though I haven't played their games much. If I had, I'd know what DLCs I'd be interested in. They also frequently release huge free updates.

Curiously, I never got much into Klei's games, though I love the art style. Don't starve was maybe a bit too punishing to my taste.
Paradox problem is that with N DLC they need to maintain 2 to the power of N games for every combinaison of DLC possible.
For example Europe Universalis 4 as 14 DLC changing the gameplay that makes around 16 000 different gameplay combinations.

That could not work and that deosn't work. They try to go to subscription based DLC so there would be only the base game and the full DLC games and to makes the DLC independent with each other by making change only to a limited geographical area.
While it sounds all right in theory, that's not exactly the case: making an interface modular by defining it well allows to plug different things on it. I'm pretty sure Civilization can add an endless (kinda) number of civs to their games.

There's also the approach of keeping everything included, and only enabling things if the user bought tbe DLC, which can help.

Yeah, for gameplay changes? You probably need to touch up the base game too. And it's very hard to balance a game once you add DLC (if the same game needs to be well-balanced with and without a new DLC unit, for instance).

Kudos to Paradox for making it work :P
