The team behind the free and open source GameCube and Wii emulator Dolphin have announced a big change to their plans, along with a new much more rapid release schedule.
Recently it was pretty big news that Nintendo issued takedowns to Facepunch for Garry's Mod content, and now Garry Newman of Facepunch (developer of Garry's Mod and Rust) has written up a blog post with some comments on it.
Zelda 64: Recompiled was pretty interesting news recently, a PC port of Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask using the new N64: Recompiled tool and now a fresh update is out to improve it further.
While we only recently had the Zelda 64: Recompiled release, we've now also got another PC port of Zelda: Majora's Mask thanks to the Harbour Masters team with 2 Ship 2 Harkinian.
Well, Nintendo aren't going to be happy about this one are they. A developer going by Mr-Wiseguy released an open source tool for bringing Nintendo 64 titles to any platform, and released a PC port of Zelda: Majora's Mask.
While Nintendo took down the Nintendo Switch emulator yuzu, the collateral damage was the Nintendo 3DS emulator Citra which was also taken offline but Lemonade is an attempt to keep it going.
Well, that didn't last long did it. After a first release, GitLab have already pulled down the Nintendo Switch emulator suyu, due to a DMCA hit as a result of it being forked from yuzu which Nintendo shut down.
There's a new Nintendo Switch emulator named suyu, which has been forked off from the original yuzu before Nintendo shut it down and a release is now available.
After Yuzu emulator owners agreed to pay Nintendo $2.4 million USD and EmuDeck also announcing Yuzu and Citra removal right after the court settlement became available on the internet, Nintendo DS emulator DraStic is now free.
Here's one less reason for game developers to skip over using the free and open source Godot Engine, as it now has a free port available to bring games over to the Nintendo Switch.
Recently I highlighted that the Nintendo 3DS emulator Citra was doing a big move over to Vulkan, giving it a modern rendering system to keep on pushing performance. The latest updates also give a big boost for Linux / Steam Deck.
The team working on the Nintendo Switch emulator yuzu have another progress report up, and as usual it's looking mighty fine so here's a little run over what they've done recently.
After all the ruckus recently about the Dolphin Emulator for Wii and GameCube coming to Steam, and then being blocked - the team has now given up with the Steam release.
Back in March the plan was announced for the Wii and GameCube emulator Dolphin to release on Steam, along with some useful Steam features but now that seems unlikely to happen.
