Not fond of the "won't hold your hand" bit, since that usually means "won't explain how systems work and didn't include any quality of life features". That doesn't seem to be what they're going for here, but it's marketing language that always makes me suspicious.
Otherwise it looks very good, and I'm hoping it lives up to that promise.

Quoting: SeegrasThat helmet with these shoulders and the breast plate... It hurts. He does kinda look like he picked up his gear at a garage sale, doesn't he?
Yes I know it's fantasy, but pseudo-16th century shoulders and a pseudo-15th century breastplate might work, but NEVER with a pseudo-13th century helmet. And the short-sleeved chain-mail is also as stupid as it gets.
The "sword" is also a lot of eye-damage.

Maybe it's Chekov's writing, maybe it's the performances of the actors, but what's shown in the trailer doesn't feel like characters talking to each other. Rather, they feel like they're saying things totally unrelated to each other, like machines spitting out preset comments at random. What results is this weird "floaty" feeling to the whole proceeding, which personally doesn't draw me in.
The visual style does seem a bit more compelling, but in isolation I don't think that can carry the whole thing.

I'll be honest, it's about time they addressed this. For a long time I've seen permadeath being the default as something that drags down Caves of Qud rather than elevates it. I can see it in the daily and weekly challenges, but for the default story mode it comes off more as an artifact of its roguelike roots, which has become a drag as the world and story became bigger and richer.
Permadeath works best when you're able to do quick runs with little turnaround time and you can jump right in. But for a game where character creation takes a while, then you have to explore whatever village you're in to find the quests (even more time investment when it's not Joppa), and on top of that have this huge main questline to follow, it becomes intensely frustrating to suddenly come up against a level five chitinous puma in the first goddamn lair you find that you can neither damage nor escape from (at least not without abusing the AI). And yes, I've run into that situation many times, against as many as three of the damn out-of-depth things at once.
So yeah, I totally support not making new players have to dig into an extensive options menu for a pair of toggles they don't even know exist to turn on ssaves/turn off permadeath. It's been a long time coming, even if they're still pushing permadeath as the default, intended experience.

David Rosen of Wolfire Games explains why they're taking on Valve in a lawsuit

Quoting: F.UltraI think that's exactly the idea here. It's not a lawsuit anyone intends to win. The intent is to send a message, and lodge in the public's mind that Steam is doing this shady thing that they may or may not be actually doing. Rudy Giuliani is an apt comparison, since his suits aren't about legally actionable claims, but about undermining trust and giving supporters of his "side" (in this case "crusading storefronts" like Epic) something to latch on to, claiming Steam must be bad, look at all the lawsuits filed against them!Quoting: GuestAgreed that it would be quite serious, but I have one major problem here and that is that this whole affair sounds and looks like a Rudy Giuliani lawsuit where they say one thing out of court and one thing in court. What I mean by that is that on this blog Wolfire claim that they have personal experience with Valve threatening to withdraw their games if they sold it cheaper elsewhere even if no Steam keys where involved but in the actual paper that they filed with the court they only mention that a 3d party got that exact threat from Valve when Steam keys where involved.Quoting: kuhpunktWelcome to the world of manipulative language.Quoting: GuestIf that's not the main point, what is?Quoting: kuhpunktYeah....that doesn't say what you think it says. Someone is asking explicitly about price parity and there is, at the time of writing, no response to that.Quoting: Guesthttps://www.gamingonlinux.com/2021/05/david-rosen-of-wolfire-games-explains-why-theyre-taking-on-valve-in-a-lawsuit/comment_id=202951Quoting: kuhpunktGreat. Show me the quote.Quoting: GuestAnd I have quoted Chet Faliszek (ex-Valve employee), who said that such a clause doesn't exist.Quoting: kuhpunktHave you read the lawsuit?Quoting: GuestAgree or not with Valve's price parity clause (disclaimer: I don't agree with that) but at least look at it on its own merits. If there even is one...
And this topic is about a blog post of someone who is in a position to know if there is this clause or not. He's seen the clauses.
Unless you're calling him a liar. In which case I'd say that David Rosen has far more credibility than you do.
Most of the lawsuit is, in my opinion, full of it. But the price parity for places where there are no steam keys involved, is possibly quite serious, so it pays to be extra explicit about it.
So why not include their own experience of which they would have good evidence of unless this is just smoke and mirrors.

I actually got very into the fan comics (and some official ones) made for this series. There's a surprisingly big cast and developed mythos, even before you get to what the fans lay on it, and frankly the setting is inspired, allowing for an incredible amount of variation. The games are so far beyond me it's funny though, so I'll probably give this a miss other than being impressed by it.
