Steam Deck UI comes to Desktop in Beta to replace Big Picture Mode
28 Oct 2022 at 6:26 am UTC

Quoting: CybolicIt's actually been in the stable client for months. Before now, it just had to be launched with two arguments instead of the one. I was running it for a couple of months earlier in the year with gamescope (behaves better that way) using the following command:
gamescope -W 3440 -H 1440 --steam -f -- /usr/bin/steam-runtime -steamos -gamepadui
Back then I got annoyed with the client trying to control the system - things like shutting down the OS on exit or wanting to restart the system, which makes perfect sense on Steam Deck, but not on desktop - so I went back to the standard client.

EDIT: I assume the new stuff is that it works better without gamescope - first step to becoming a proper desktop client.
I was having a big Deja vu with this news. I remembered trying it with my linux desktop but I didn't remember how.
Still, the new interface lacks the media player. Hope they improve it.

Quoting: mrdeathjrSystem requirements filtered on steam are a bit higher especially on gpu area:

SO: Windows 10 x64

Memories: 12 GB
GPU: AMD Radeon™ RX 5700 / NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1080

Hope they can optimize more the game. Also my ryzen 1600 could have problems.

Get PAYDAY 2 and a ton of DLC in the latest Humble Bundle

Quoting: udekmp69The native port is fine, but it uses OpenGL, which works for you if your GPU doesn't have Vulkan support I suppose. I use Proton because DXVK seems to get a lot better performance. I also heard getting mods for this game is a lot easier thru Proton than the native port. Both are playable though and it's just down to preference.

I just searched to see if there were any videos on youtube with native v. proton, and here's a good comparison from 2020 - https://youtu.be/jDf00eS4XJ0 [External Link]
I prefer the native port always. It incentives the developers care for linux and it's users. If we use the windows version its possible that they break "compatibility" with some update.

Gamepad driver and app 'SC Controller' gets Steam Deck support
4 Oct 2022 at 7:51 pm UTC

Quoting: axredneckIs it possible to stop Steam from handling Steam Controller and force use SC Controller instead?
I don't know, but steam takes control of the steam controller if it's running.
Nowadays it's not need to use sc-controller to have steam controller on linux working, as there are native drivers in the kernel, but it has a nice cofiguration (if you don't run steam).

I would like that sc-controller could be used like de wiiu gamepad on the pc with the deck, be able to use the deck as a controller and have a separate screen for wiiu/ds or mirror screen on games.

Google gives up on Stadia, will offer refunds on games and hardware

If at least let us download the games/save files, have the ability to sincronize the saves, and play the games we owned on local... I would buy the games without thinking it.
But pay and only be able to play when I have a good online connection? No thanks.
Even the games wasn't cheap. I could find easily the same games on steam/gog or other with cheaper prices.
For me, the cloud is an extra.

Transferring files from PC to Steam Deck with FileZilla FTP

And now with ssh we can connect with a terminal remotely to the deck.
And probably (I don't know how to configure) have remote X11.

Intel reveals 13th Gen 'Raptor Lake' desktop CPUs
29 Sep 2022 at 7:44 am UTC

In defense of Intel. Their cpus are cheaper (it seems). They cannot compare with the new amd cpus because they didn't have yet. The motherboards and ram are could be cheaper if you choose a older motherboard and ddr4 that the new amd cannot have.
And finally Intel has to work with much worse node.
I'm been using amd since k6-2, and now I have a ryzen 1600x, so, no need to upgrade for now.
I'm waiting for the next or next-next gen cpus (zen5-6).
Both Amd and Intel I don't understand what they are thinking. We are in recession and the power cost is much greater than some time ago. Both manufacturers are going to hot.

Intel Arc A770 GPU releases October 12th

I would like to see an imagination (the old powervr) desktop card. I don't know how good the linux drivers are.

They invented the hardware raytracing accelerator, and if it can go mobile probably it could scale well to desktop with good power efficiency.
